Sorry if this is already answered somewhere, but I didn't see it in a cursory glance through the thread.

I'm trying to build a 'Makeshift Bed' in an evac shelter basement.  When I go to build it, it prompts for which direction to build in, but there is no amount of space or orientation that doesn't fail with the incredibly helpful message "You cannot build there!"

Since building things is now a feature intrinsic to this version of the game, what am I doing wrong?
Yeah, I changed basement floors to be stone a while back instead of regular, but forgot about the implications this would have for constructions. I'll have a fix in the next version for it. Feel free to cheat in a cot to deploy until such a time.

Constructed windows don't quite seem to be working right. They work great until you do the step that is supposed to add curtains.
After that no matter where you try to do it from you can't close the curtains.  Can't open the window either.

Also as a slightly related thing removing the glass from a window doesn't give you the curtains like smashing them does.

These are both the Feb 2nd windows version.  Just in case you guys released another I don't know of since then.

Fire mode switching doesn't work for pistols with the auto-fire mechanism installed, though burst fire will still work if you manually rebind "burst-fire wielded item".

The volume increase for caliber retools seems a little high. Adding a .45 caliber retool to a S&W 619 increases the volume from 2 to 4. The revolver doubling in size just because I swapped out some parts doesn't make much sense to me. It also further marginalizes the use of retools.

Also, with the addition of spare magazines, I think revolvers need a little something to balance it out. Speedloaders and the ability to extend their barrels for increased damage and accuracy would be nice.

I've also noticed that it is possible to attach more than one under barrel attachment to a gun. While this is cool, it doesn't make a lot of sense.

This is a rifle with an attached grenade launcher, crossbow, shotgun, and spare magazine.

I think it's a vastly amusing thought that elephants are so afraid of heights that when Dwarves invented the Z-axis, they couldn't bear to face dwarves in combat anymore.

You can attach crossbows to guns?   I am stunned with this revelation and must figure out how to do so with my current character who despite high skill in archery was underwelmed by longbow damage and switched to a rifle.  To think, my archery skill might not be a complete waste.

Also another possible bug to add to my previous ones above.  I seem to be unable to build wire gates.  I have all the listed materials but no terrain seems to qualify.  I've even gone into town with the mats to see if it needs to be applied to an already existing fence, or just bare metal post.  No dice on any of them.

They need to be built in a door frame.

I shall reconsider this, as I realise how little sense it makes :P

Probably just a between walls check.

Not sure if this has come up or not but: I found a compound bow (valued at 2000 to my companion NPC from the starting safehouse) and traded it to him to pay for some teaching. Then when I needed to trade more stuff for teaching I found that I could get it back from him for just 1300! I ended up being able to trade items back and forth with him until I got all of the possible teaching I could from him, then had enough of a profit to just take all of his stuff. Then I killed him to get the katana he wielded.

Only had to kill him because he wouldn't move from the doorway when I went down a 1 tile wide hall in a hospital and entered a room to look for loot. He was such a good follower too, didn't make much noise and just destroyed zombies left and right. Ended up getting out of the hospital, living for another day and a half, and then was eaten by giant ants. Did not realize that killing one ant would make them all swarm me :( Had so much loot stored up in the safe house too...

Edit: I am playing whatever version was out as of the 2nd of January, if that makes any difference.

I've made a statement somewhere that my official stance on NPCs is that they're broken :P I offer no assistance if they crash your game or give you the best item in the game for free.

Lol okay, I'd be happy with just being able to order them to move out of my way for a moment so I don't have to kill them. I haven't had any NPC related crashes yet, and having an easy way to build up skills is pretty fun.

Something of note (in relation go NPC trading) is that Flashlights with full charge are worth gobs, and they are light enough that you can carry a lot of them, so they make pretty awesome trading items. Lighters are also good, but they may get gobbled up by something during trade so make sure you don't trade them all away :D

One other thing, I was looking through the help menu and found my way down to the FAQ section. It still has Whale's email address there so you might want to change that to whomever's email should be handling Q&A outside of the DDA forum and here :P

Do not attack young triffids.

Saw an NPC attacking them.
Decided to join the fun.
Found out they were an easy source of veggie goodness and started killing them by the dozens.
Went to sleep well fed.
Woke up next day.
Adult Triffids and Vine Monsters everywhere.

Oh lord.

Ah Trifflids.  The bane of many an early safehouse.  Wait until you fall asleep and wake up to a tree growing through your chest.

Excellent source of food, chunk of veggy keeps 3 times as long as meat does if I remember right, and it doesn't taste bad raw.  They are just as easy to kill as anything else in a car, though queen trifflids do pose a significant and permanent hazard to vehicles.  One of the things you generally wanna avoid trying to run over.

If it helps anything trifflids don't travel more than a map screen or so from their grove.

Some snazzy stuff coming up. Care of Kevingranade we have view shifting, so you can now set your veiwpoint to have most of the screen in front of your vehicle, rather than being dead centre. Should make driving a li'l less dangerous. Also means you can shift it backwards to keep an eye on that horde coming at you.
