Wouldn't a shield just be armor you wear on your arm, adding arm encumbrance, but covering the both torso and arms?

Can you do that?

Well, for that we'd need separate arm encumbrances-  a shield adds a lot of encumberment, but only to one arm, leaving the other free to hold a sword.

Let's go one step further and add levels of encumberment that have the same or even greater level of detail than DF's health system.

You know they'll have to do it one day. Might as well bite the bullet now.

Well, you also have two different ways of holding shields - Ones where you're just holding onto it by a bar and ones strapped to your arm. The first are much easier to get ripped out of your grip, but can't really be used to pull you over, while the second are really hard to lose but can be a liability if a bunch of zombies are grabbing at you. Bit of a trade-off.

Dude, watch the video about chain mail.
I make chainmail.

Thicker rings are better for protection, that can't be denied.  Thicker armor DOES prove harder to get through.  That's why there could be differences in "regular" and "heavy" mail to distinguish high-encumberance-high-protection from light-and-swift varieties.

Fence wire is perfectly fine for armor though.  The thickness of the wire is fine.

I go some friendly slimes from my Marloss berries, and I think they're causing an infinite loop occasionally. Every time I open the game up, it'll eventually just freeze. It doesn't invalidate the save, but I can't do much. I'm playing in 0.6, one of the experimental builds I think. Is there any way I can delete the blobs from the save?

Apparently my face is blistering from the intense heat I've endured, wearing a dust mask and bandana in 77F weather.

As a Texan I have to say the PC in this game is a wuss.

I mean the temperature system is obviously a bit fuzzy, since I started getting 'Warm' at 55F, apparently just because it had turned from Spring to Summer.  But I feel like this is a little too punishing, even for Cataclysm.

I have to agree that its a bit too 'extreme' right now. I couldn't sleep due to the cold in 65 degree weather while wearing underarmor, a shirt, cargo pants, socks, boots, and a bandana.

I sleep in 65 degree weather all the time wearing naught but a shirt and PJ bottoms...

Yeah, temperature regulation is far too difficult right now.

Doesn't compare to my Freezing! wearing full double-layers of fur in 88F bright sun.

Use them if you get into a tight spot and need a distraction or as a hunting aid. Perfectly harmless so feel free to experiment

Also, apparently if you stand near lava you can die from the heat without noticing till you're dead.
