...only Bay 12 invents cyborg car-demons and makes them sound like a wonderful addition to a disaster roguelike.

Yes please!

For some reason, I'm reminded of the classic, brilliant, unforgettable movie "Maximum Overdrive".

Demon Cars: No thanks. Way out of ... canon? setting? Whatever the word is, they don't belong, imo.

Dude, this game is a mix of many different universes, nothing is canon, at fucking all. Sorry to say.

There's half life references, giant flamming eyeballs of doom, flying polyps, even that thing the enigma of amigara fault which I haven't seen in ages.

But this isn't a cameo or an easter egg you guys are talking about. you want to turn all vehicles into these demon cars.

The point is that there's no defined canon of what makes sense for this universe and what doesn't. The [spoiler] assimilating an entire vehicle into some monstrous blob makes as much sense as anything else.

Don't forget the things from Tremors. We got those, too.

Considering that the current state of Cataclysm's mid-to-late-game is facing off against stuff in mines, having something that's more of a challenge and requires some degree of skill/luck to defeat would be a welcome addition. Right now it's just stocking up on miscellaneous supplies and running over zombies. Also, having a monster that's (to my knowledge) original to Cataclysm would be rewarding*.

*I did use it in a tabletop game once, but that doesn't really count.

Maybe adding some interesting dodge mechanics would make fighting cars less lethal in open areas. Diving for cover, which can move you a certain number of tiles in some direction relatively quickly, would be nice for avoiding the wrath of a careening demon car.

My major opposition to it is that I think it sounds really dumb. I am completely unable to picture it in my head in a way that is not completely and totally absurd, and not in a good way. I don't know how, but it /does/ feel like it would be out of place. Considering the circumstances, that's impressive.

Ignoring that, I think the concept has some merit. I'd love to have some sort of large roaming creatures that can't get you inside, but are just waiting for you to cross the road. I wouldn't even mind if they were some sort of car thing. But I think they'd need a stronger justification and better flavour, a better balance for gameplay purposes, and perhaps some sort of localization. Perhaps there could be an "auto-taxi" building that gets taken over by the ooze, and the nearby town's auto-taxi's now seek you out and hunt you down? And if you can take out the building, you disable the auto-taxis (mostly).

Implementation-wise, I imagine it would still all be pretty difficult.

A really monster would be a rogue Von Neumann Probe from a different dimension.

Yeah, the flavor is weak. I'd rather see it be rogue computer-controlled cars or something similar, fluff-wise.

Why not big robot trucks that gobble up houses and such for scrap to repair their cars? They could even come after your car.
Im kinda thinking a sandcrawler like design.

What about a huge mothercrawler that sends out small drones after you? Like the goverment decided as a last measure to send out robotic cleanup missions in an attempt to save earth for potentia lsurvivors, except that they are dangerous to be nearby.
