I always peek around corners when I'm sneaking through towns. The zombies can still see you, but you don't waste two turns moving to a square and back again. Also, I never open doors when I can hear something on the otherside: I've had a bear spawn in a closed bedroom before.
Two words:
Infrared Vision.

Which of course doesn't pick up skeletons. One time I was having fun dancing around a bunch of zombies through the middle of the town at night with my infrared vision only to open a door and promptly step into the middle of like 3 skeletons. Needless to say that character didn't live much longer after that.

I discovered it when trying to look with accidental Capslock on and now I swear by it. Peeking and bear traps are my route to victory.

I once found a group of dead scientist right outside of a labratory.  I had some none infested swamps next door that I used for water and hunting, and towns to the north and south that I used to raid.  I had something like 150 things of meat stored up, along with lots of fur pelts.  Until the wolf spider came.

No need to be that extreme, most guns can kill spiders.

Take fleet footed. Run from wolf spiders. Run from everything else, too.

I've noticed a couple people here mention surviving to see the other seasons. Out of curiosity, how long does it take to get out of spring? I think the longest I've gone before either dying or getting bored is day ten or so. Is the year set up like an actual year, or is it on a smaller scale?

A bit late to the party but... Peek?! What is this wizardry? Does it work by casting your vision from the tile around the corner, so you can see what you would have seen, but without having had to move to the tile? (Thus saving the 2 moves, as mentioned above)

new ingame item, camera drone or an old bent pipe with a mirror so u can peep around corners.

That said in the latest build dying is more common, zombies hunt u longer and harder

I can't be the only person who always takes fleet-footed.  It lets you maintain spacing on hulks and outrun pretty much every zombie.
