Nail board is very slightly better than a crowbar, but as stated a crowbar also has the ability to pro open locked doors, which is almost integral early in.

I've recently been LPing Cataclysm using (now a few days out of date I'm sure) a version I compiled from the git repository, and following a few requests for a tutorial on how to compile I've put together a short video going through installing code::blocks and compiling the source. You can find it here. :)

I didn't want to muddy things by going into installing git and cloning the repo, so I used the zipped source code available in Darkling Wolf's Downloading and Runnign the game thread on the Cataclysm:DDA forums. But I imagine that this will serve as a starting point should anyone want to go on to install git and build from the latest source code.

I looked through the topic for the word compile, but couldn't find any posts regarding a tutorial (beyond Darkling's guide), but in case I missed one, please forgive any redundancy :)

Sounds like you're playing with dynamic spawn? If so, I've not played around with it much myself, so I can't help you there. But if you're playing with static spawn, I'd put that down to luck.

Yeah that sounds like dynamic spawn mode. Basically you get a short grace period (till 9:30 am) before which the only zombies that are around are child zombies in parks and other zombies inside hospitals and megastores. After that you have pretty much an unlimited amount of zombies in any city, they spawn on a clock timer if you are near (up to a point IIRC). Whenever you make noise the timer is decreased and the next spawn size is increased by an amount based on how loud the noise is, so loud methods of killing zombies will cause the next wave to spawn sooner and with more zombies. However the larger the wave is that is spawned the higher the next timer starts at (so making them spawn a big wave and then quickly killing it quietly can buy you quite a time gap without any zombies in-town).

I hate wolf spiders. They refuse to stay still and let themselves get halberded.

And wood arrows bounce off them, and you can't run faster then them.

You just need more skill and not mind melee range archery every once in a while. I advise that after you sleep the first time and you have a lot of xp bash the benches in the shelter and make arrows to train.

So it seems I accidentally put my canteen in my wheelbarrow and didn't notice... and then I got really thirsty... so right before going to sleep I go to take a swig from my canteen and... end up snorting a line of low-grade meth.

I should have just shot it or blew it up, but I didn't think it was a threat. I need to start engaging my brain when I'm down to the last few hit points. Pretty annoyed, I managed to get a car, clear half the town and was building up my taped-up safehouse when the bloody thing pounced me when I was out taking a stroll to the bar to make some molotovs. Should've taken the car. Lessons have been learned.

I did the same thing with a zombie hulk outside a police station last night. I shot three or four arrows at it, wondering why the zombie cop didn't die, then I looked at the damage numbers and saw that all my headshots dealt >10 damage. By then it was up in my face. I scrambled for my .45 USP, but couldn't find it and realised that I had probably left it in the car by mistake when dumping other loot.

Fuck.

I searched my inventory for something that could save me, and to my great relief, I'm always packing molotovs. I lit and threw one beside the hulk, which caught on fire. It then kept on punching me in the face, while on fire. I shot a few more arrows at it, hoping to kill it, but realized that it wouldn't work. I then threw my final molotov, since I had low health and was in great pain. It hit, and killed the hulk in the explosion.

FUCK YES!

I survived the attack with red health in both head, torso and one of the arms. After using some of the ~50 first aids got in the local hospital I left to fortify my new-found LMOE shelter.

Today I managed to die twice: first time I was freezing to death by a sewage treatment plant so I thought I'd go set fir to a nearby hive. The bees were poisoning me so I tried to shoot one close range with a one-shot missile launcher. You can guess how that went. The second time I died because I didn't realise how damaged my torso had become after hanging out in a smoke-filled military surplus store.

I did something of the same thing last night except replace everything after realizing it was a hulk with "dang all I have is a bow". That and push the time of realization forward by a good bit. Its in my latest video within the first few minutes.
