You can always edit the save file and change the letters yourself.

Cheers for the workaround, this will suffice until the fix.

I haven seen one myself, but I hear there are machines in hospitals that will fix them.

Lots of sick people used to be in there though.  Very sick people.

Is there a point to exploring the 1000 underground rooms of labs?

Mutagen, purifier, royal jelly, fanny packs, batteries, bionics, water, bandages, and if yer still missing one, a butcher's knife.

Oh and the lab finale which can be anything from mind blowingly dangerous and useless, to liquid awesome wrapped in bacon and as easy to loot as turning off yer flashlight.

For those who offered to help:
http://www.cataclysmdda.com/smf/index.php?topic=763.0

That's a summary of where I am right now, what I need in roughly the order I need it, and a link to my github repo with the changes so-far.

I wish I knew how to code for the sole fact that I want to help improve one of my favorite roguelikes.

I keep finding lawnmowers in kitchens. And exclusively in kitchens. I did have an awesome character earlier. I've been running

S12/D14/I8/P12
No Positive Traits
Glass Jaw/Lightweight/Addictive Personality/Weak Stomach/Truth Teller
Melee 1/Piercing Weapons 1/Cooking 1/Construction 2/Survival 3/Traps 2

So far it's done me good. I start out using the shelter as a base, gank the NPC if they're unarmed/lightly armed and poorly statted, and break into everything on the outskirts of town. This build and strategy has consistently gotten me a nice cushion of supplies (last game found a 9mm, a good 300 or so various 9mm rounds, and two silencers in one of the first houses I came across. A cushion if ever I had one.) and made it very easy to branch out my looting further into the city. I'm no good at creating effective or OP characters in...any game, really, because it feels like I'm going against nature when my characters don't have to bite, claw, and inevitably die their way to the top (Peasant Adventurer with useless skills ftw). So I get excited when I get something I like that actually works.

Oh man, I'm so ridiculously proud of myself. I've never modded a game before, and as a small experiment I created a beret and a pickelhaube (to spawn in military surplus store and the pawn shop respectively). I then built the game and made a mad dash to the nearest military surplus store, with a mob of master zombie, acid zombies, shockers and zombie dogs and everything following me. And lo and behold, there on the shelf was the beret I just made! I know it's actually a pretty trivially thing to do, and it took very little time to do and was just using existing code architecture but this has given me the urge to work on understanding what's going on in the code so I can create more and more ambitious things...

The next thing to do is to raise a pull request and share your new things with the world :)

Unless it was already added in the newer versions, I think that I'd like to create an exoskeleton, kinda like the HULC.

It would increase you encumbrance a bit on legs, torso, feet and arms, and give you something like +5 extra strength and some extra weight capacity (maybe like 50kg / 100pounds). It would be fairly unusual, maybe only found in military bases and such.

Maybe there could also be a crating recipe using this and a plate armor, to make a basic power armor.

So I got the arm fixed at the hospital (at a cost of 350 pain instantly), but the health on my arms and legs wont go above 20, and are actually hovering around 1 hp constantly. I cant apply medkits or bandages to them either.

Maybe it's simulating setting the bone and healing time or something? I dunno, best excuse I could find.

And that remind me: In regards to pain, when should that number be worrying? I'm paranoid about it and pop painkillers whenever pain goes above like 5.
