A stealth skill is a bad thing because when use correctly it always breaks any realistic stealth system.

Well then what you want is a dual system that uses both the skill and situation. With stealth just providing mitigation factors against detection.

That's essentially what I was suggesting.

Anyone can stand in the shadows. It takes a skilled stealth artist to know that the fancy ring he's wearing shines in torchlight. It takes an expert to know that he should probably take that ring off. It takes a master of stealth to know that standing in front of the guardtower is generally a bad idea, even if the shadow of the door is the most delicious shade of gamebreakium.

Thats the original developers site. Whale's was the man who made the game but has stopped developing it. The current dev team picked it up and made their own website, forum and such because they can actually modify this one and really at this point they are like 2 different games with the DDA being like a sequel rather then just a fork.

Akhier, have you thought about doing videos using the latest build from GitHub? It doesn't have random fungal spires anymore and some of the other bugs are worked out.

Huh, I guess I will because that is quite annoying. I just tend to pull down the latest GitHub when the new version is out and play with that till the next version because of the continue world thing. With something as game breaking as randspires I will probably switch over after I finish my saved game.

-Stealthsnip2-
Yeah, you're right - and if you need an example, Skyrim is the perfect example of how a stealth skill breaks everything.

Just incase anyone is interested it seems Jefmajor has uploaded a trio of new Cataclysm videos. They are Here(part7), Here(part8), and Here(part9). I also have another video up as well and it can be found Here. I have yet to watch Jef's but overall his videos have been good so far [snooty voice]and obviously mine is perfect[/snooty voice]

I have an idea for a "stealth" oriented skill. General awareness: slightly lowers your movement noise and increases the accuracy of your hearing. We can't really have old crpg logic of hiding in plain sight, but the closest IRL thing I can think of is learning how to move silently and judge sound. No bonuses or help in direct line of sight. Possibly a usage of chemicals like bleach/ammonia for masking or cutting off your scent trail too.

Finally getting back into Cataclysm, good work on not letting this die.  I'd like to make some suggestions on LMOE Shelters, because they're far too beneficial.

LMOE Shelters should have a chance of appearing in a few states other than being abandoned. The most obvious would be to actually have the LMOE themselves be in the shelter, and not happy to see you at all. There is also the possibility of overrun LMOE shelters smashed up and filled to the brim with some kind of enemy, though still possessing some useful materials, if you can get to them. More rare and most dangerous of all would be a shelter having been taken over by a surviving rogue military unit, who will at best turn you away and at worst shoot on sight.

I'd also suggest adding a LMOE Advantage that starts you in a safe LMOE shelter and perhaps a Sheeple Disadvantage that starts you trapped in a FEMA Camp where everything has gone to shit and you have nothing but the clothes on your back.

I think they probably plan to have an NPC in the places once those work or else there would be zombies or something in there. Though yeah for now they are really nice goody huts.

Yeah, there's a reason they're referred to as LMAO shelters right now. They'll have more threats in future.

I'm not sure why you wouldn't put an armed hostile human in there already, since those at least are done.
