I also found a charge rifle, and mounted it on my motorcycle (which also has a V6, a large electric, solar panel, cargo container....) and it's a little funky.  Does it make enemies explode when they're killed by the charge rifle?

IIRC, the charge rifle charges up before firing. If you wait until it's fully charged (and doesn't blow in you face), it creates an explosion similar to a grenade's in size.

I don't have a UPS handy, so I'm just using it mounted.  It seems to kill zombies with explosives, and fire every turn.  If they don't die, there's no boom.

I need to try and get the UPS CBM...

Also on a shopping cart.  I've seriously considered putting charge rifles on shopping carts, with solar panels, as a means of base defense.  Though it'll more likely just end up as a set of casters, some hard plates, a rifle, and a solar panel.  More of a turret emplacement than a shopping cart death laser...

There is no reload.  The NX17 charge rifle is the only vehicle-mounted weapon that fires pure energy, drawn from the vehicle's power system.  No ammo involved, just a storage battery and a solar panel!

Yes, but in general it is still easier. I dont think there is any way to reload a standard turret...

Also, probability travel is amazing.  1PU/t to remain active, burns 250 PU to phase through a single tile, and can phase through more if you've got the power for it.  that's 500 energy to just be inside a bank vault.  Curiously, I found it inside a bank vault too... dynamite helped initially.  A total bitch to install, but a bump of meth and 3 Adderall and there's nothing I can't shove into my organs!

My experience with a mounted NX17 from a few versions back went a bit like this:
-rifle shoots pew-pew shots
-randomly goes "kaboom"; more annoying than effective
-went to sleep in the car with turrets on
-a zombie sneaks up on me and starts to bang on the door
-rifle decides to go "kaboom" on the zombie
-fuel tank explodes
-drinking beer with Abraham
