I'd love amputation to be possible, so long as there's a big chance it ends up with you dying of shock if you don't know what you're doing. (Seriously, that should be a last resort)

You're pretty much garunteed to not know what you are doing. A hospital autodoc would be nice.

Can somebody tell me what the heck is a mi-go? And more importantly, why doesn't it have an ASCII tile?

Besides first aid kits, disinfectant works even pretty late in the process - it will fix the ones that say "Infected", although it can fail too requiring multiple applications.  It's a component of bandages too but I don't remember if they have any effect or not.

Yeah, but I always get bitten when I have neither antibiotics, disinfectant or first aid kit and die rushing in a city to get one.

Heh, yeah, ain't that always the way.   In that case, yeah suck up the pain and cauterize.  If it takes multiple tries, bummer, if you have no painkillers hunker down somewhere for a bit and the pain does go down SOME...

You do have a few hours (24?) before it turns green, so you don't need to rush. I'd try to bee-line for a pharmacy or bathrooms and ignore the other parts of the house until you find the medicine, yeah?

It does have an ASCII tile, a pink &, and it's a weird Lovecraftian monster.

Well, when I first saw it, it had no tile. It was just a black square assaulting me. I figured out the reason, and made an issue for it.
It's a little screwup with color masks in bitmap ASCII fonts. The FG and BG colors are applied in sequence to the same image, and the pink color is the mask color for BG, so after the FG is applied the tile becomes solid BG mask. The fix is a tiny change to the pink color in the colors.json.

...So no. That bacterial infection is going to stay no matter what, because of open wound and all.
Small thing, but there is actually a chance of a wound healing on it's own. IIRC the chance is about 1/3rd, though the majority of those will heal while it's still a bite wound, and if you are recovering from a past infection it can severely lower your chances.

@Sean, it's probably a bug.

It's a bug, but it's an entirely inconsequential bug that will hardly ever come up anywhere again. It's easier to brighten or darken the ingame pink by 1/255th by default, than writing a replacement loader for bitmap fonts.

It's a bug that only happens to tile-less ASCII, so if you're using tiles of any kind (even the RetroASCII with fallback), it won't show up. It also won't show up if you're using a TrueType font for ASCII.
