That brings up something I've been wondering.

Does anyone have the "stats" on the melee weapon styles? Like how the other styles have their features explained on the wiki.

I don't even know what weapons they all affect. I know pentjak silat is knives, but apparently its spears too? And does fencing work with katana's? Zweihanders?

If you pick them there's a list for each about their affected weapons in-game. The standard martial arts _ and ? keys bring it up, like any of the other skills.

No explanations about what the skill procs do but I'm guessing escrima is more for defensive counters using smaller weapons. Pentjak silat offers a +1 dodge bonus, heavy crits, stuns, knockbacks. Silat stance works with a huge number of weapons, including the shishkebab, No. 9, spears, tonfas, up to and including the quarterstaves.

Well. Ninja'd. Dammit.

Thanks guys, especially you Blaze! *hugs Blaze*

So basically never ever choose fencing because it only works with weapons that require the resources of the entire universe to craft, got it XD

And if you find a rapier, you can fence a Shoggoth to death.  Fencing is tough to get working, but when it does, it rocks big stone bells.

A forged sword literally needs a rock, a fire, and some metal scraps to bang together. Am I missing something?

I found a katana in a gun nut's basement.

And apparently, this town is otherwise made of stoners. Every basement other than that one was a weed farm, and one guy had weed sitting around in his bedroom.

That's a crude sword.

Forged and broad swords, rapiers, zweihanders, all those require an actual forge and all the forging shit like a swage & die set, a crucible, an anvil, a chisel. That stuff. It's incredibly hard to find and is something only expert players with characters who are like a year old can accomplish.

I'm only 30 days in and I've managed to make all my stuff, starting with a make-shift welder and moving up to electric forge, crucibles, and the like. :v

To be fair, I found a wrench, hammer, hacksaw, and such.

I guess... I'm confused what trips people up. Provided you don't get a bio-operator or mi go spawn outside the bunker or something, the game really isn't THAT hard to get established by just raiding houses. What's killing everyone every game?

It's really easy to power game the system if you know how. If you don't or won't, it hurts.

That being said, it really isn't that hard to get crafting stuff. You can make everything you need. All you really need are the books. I play with 30 day seasons and I'm usually pretty well set up by the start of summer. The only reason it takes time is because reading takes so freaking long now.

I honestly feel like more research needs to go into fencing.  If you actually study the history of it, there's a lot more technique to it than just "thrust thrust, parry!".  There are a lot of different fencing styles which center around defending yourself, armed or unarmed, with any weapon available.  One book I remember reading back in high school on old German styles of fencing involved a lot of hand to hand combat and focused a lot on getting into your opponents defenses to break his neck.

Just a note, but if you have access to the books you can craft the recipe directly out of the book without need for memorization. Just have it near you (might have to actually be in your inventory, not sure) and the recipe should be able to be crafted.

It doesn't have to be in your inventory. Once you're done reading, you can toss the books with recipes into the vehicle welding rig/RV kitchen/whatever applicable crafting station and have the whole library available when you're using the station, whether you know the recipe already or not.

Agreed. There's olympic fencing, and then there is FENCING. Fencing as a martial form is still taught beyond Olympic style, and that involves rapiers, cloaks, bucklers, daggers, bottles, all kinds of stuff.
