I prefer Static, as well. Actually clearing a town is so rewarding, even if it's a tiny 10-house village. "I will kill every last of them sons of carps, one bullet at a time, until not one of them even considers so much as twitching again. This town only has one sheriff, but it only needs one."

Aye. Once Hordes become a tad more... uhm, good. I would probably roll with both static and hordes. You can clear out a town, but there's always the danger of migratory zombies coming in and wrecking your butthole.

The hordes system alone is getting me super hyped for the next official release. And I'm not even thinking about the truckload of new content that'll be added as well.

So, so excited.

I don't know if it was hunted down yet, I personally consider it a feature if not for a small issue, but if you have Joint Ratchet CBM, you can effectively insta-recharge for free, in-game wise - if you try to walk against an impassable obstacle, say a wall, the power is charged as if you walked a tile, but the time stands still.

That one was mentioned on the cata forums to much evil cackling. I assume it has been nerfed to oblivion now.

Does anyone with a ling play history know if archery has been nerfed in the past year or so? It feels terribly inaccurate compared to what I remember, with heavy fletched field point arrows and a longbow having effective ranges of like 6 tiles or so at archery 5.

Uh how are you supposed to kill deer at that short of a range without a sneak function?

Oh yeah, another exploit, I forgot - crafting using worn items does not consume them.

I noticed something similar, I was able to cook/crafting some rotten item that I had burnt on the ground, and the resulting food was "Fresh" and "Hot."

Had a de-bug pop-up, too. Don't remember exactly what food it was, but it was while it was inside the fire that I crafted it with.

Wait for them.

... to scent you at 35 tiles and run off? to wander into a house and get cornered?

Honestly though food isn't a problem; you can always shoot dogs, coyotes, or possums. It makes zombie archery tedious as hell, though. Especially retracing the path you backpedaled picking up all the arrows every time.

Offhand, I'd rather remove half the dispersion from the better arrows, dump some of it on the low-to-mid tier bows, and add in a couple of home-made rangefinder sights that only work on bows to cover the difference. Make the rangefinders require archery 3 fabrication 3, and archery/fabrication 5 or 6, cutting tool, 1 spray can charge, duct tape, and a plastic chunk. or metal ones at higher fabrication, I dunno.

Granted when I started playing everyone was an archer. Now with all the rebalances it's a bit less of a grand unified solution, but accuracy is pitiful on them entirely due to the arrows, which you can't do anything about. Other than that, the rest of it seems pretty reasonable given the skill spread you get while leveling all of this up and plentiful ammo from day 1.

Fletched field point arrows are not very much for hunting anything large. Wolves at the biggest, I would say.
For deer you're better off with heavy wooden arrows.

Yeah my favorite thing with the lumberjack is the infinite free arrow ammo (even if it's shitty quality unless I manage to hunt down some birds) what with starting with a woodaxe and all.

You know... I didn't realize I was using small game arrows or that "heavy arrow" dropped the fletched label but still had fletching. And less than half the dispersion of fletched field points. I should probably switch to the better ones...

EDIT: Okay... Yeah I see what threw me but I'm still not clear on the labeling. At fabrication 5 you get: wooden arrow, sharpened metal arrow, heavy fletched field point arrow, heavy fletched fire hardened arrow, heavy wooden arrow, metal arrow, plastic arrow

Of those... all of them except sharpened metal arrow are fletched... which makes plain metal arrows better than sharpened metal arrows, and breaks the naming pattern from before. So... mystery solved.

Yeah my favorite thing with the lumberjack is the infinite free arrow ammo (even if it's shitty quality unless I manage to hunt down some birds) what with starting with a woodaxe and all.

You can find plastic bottles/bags/ possibly chunks and cardboard boxes as trash by foraging in forest underbrush. Fletching for everyone!

Just a small tip to help with the drudgery of archery, add arrows to your auto pickup list.

Just a small tip to help with the drudgery of archery any sort of ranged combat where you want to collect the ammo afterwards or where you want the shells, add arrows the ammo/shells to your auto pickup list.
