Mutagens can give you bad mutations, they simply give you a certain type of mutation.
If its good or bad is not determined by that, thats robust genetics/similar mutations job.

It seems fair to have the option for the blacklist mod, but I probably won't use it. Maybe after I'm more experienced in what items are especially cheesy in their high usefulness.

A blacklist mod is a really good idea. Just a shame I can't think of anything to add over there. <.<

I personally dislike slimes by the game-breakingly bad lag they can cause when there are 50+ on the screen. Fights with them are also terribly tedious as they do no damage to you, and it takes forever to kill them.

I regularly had like 10,000+ slimes.  Slimepits are OP.  Even with things like fire, grenades, and full-swing attacks, there just kept on spawning more of them.  When I'd hit like 50,000 the game would end up crashing.  For some reason clearing out large swathes of them, would generate more... and not just the splitting slimes, but actually destroying them, they'd come from the map's edge.

Need slime core that stops slimes spawning when you blow it up.

Quote from: Granade
If an item is in the blacklist mod, and you enable the mod, it will prevent the item from spawning, and it will hide the recipe for making it if any.
Wait, what? What if those items aren't in the json files and you activate the mod? Wouldn't it be a better idea to just move those items from the vanilla game to its own mod, and turning it off disables them? And in that case, wouldn't it be better to split it into multiple categories so someone can remove (for instance) vibrators, bondage gear, etc. but not ridiculous weapons?

I got the impression that there's a built-in mod toggling system to add in items easily now. Why not take advantage of that? Maybe I'm missing something here.

Because shifting things to mods to allow them to be disabled is less flexible and more fragile.
Splitting things out to mods only allows them to be split one way, whereas you can have any number of different blacklists.
Blacklists are easy to modify.  No one wants to move hunks of json around to enable/disable stuff.
Blacklists can be manipulated procedurally, a blacklist UI isn't out of the question, but a mod-splitting one would be.
Data in the json should be grouped based on development issues, not based on whether people like it or not.

I wish I'd never encouraged people to split things into mods, that was a mistake.  Blacklists are the superior tool for the job.

Yeah, that makes sense. So, what? Does the blacklist just search for items with a specific name and disable them then?

Aaaaand that's what I assumed the mod toggling was for, so you didn't have to do that. Am I wrong?

Well, whoever makes the mod has to shove JSON around to make it, and poorly-handled modpacking can crash the game if a modpacked item was set for fixed-spawning.

It loads all the entities from json (items, recipes, monsters, everything), then does another pass over them to delete the ones that are blacklisted.  We're already doing another pass over them to do consistency checking, so it's almost free.

What if you only mostly agree with the mod?  Then you get to either write your own, or copy hunks of json around.  Also that's what you have to do to make the mod in the first place.

Is there a way to "name" specific items? I know that you can engrave things on them with knives, but for some reason I really want to get a silenced assault rifle with all sorts of crap attached to it, and name it "Back Breakin' Bobbeh" or something dumb like that.

AFAIK, you can't name objects short of messing with the JSON.

Edit: Is there any purpose to the Small Relics you occasionally find?
