Also
-Is there going to be a way to reach the ocean? It shouldnt take much more than a few hours in a car.
-Are other countries still around? Its only been 8 hours since the state has been overrun so other countries should still be fighting or possibly isolating themselves like israel in world war Z.
-Whats Cataclysm 2?
1) Once we have a working overall region system that can plan the types of overmaps logically, being able to reach the ocean is definitely a planned thing.
2) It's actually day 5 after the cataclysm happened (a Thursday if anyone is interested, meaning the cataclysm happened on a Saturday). There are rumors of other countries (or even the US government) still working out there, but it's impossible to know for sure. Right now the player doesn't even know if the Cataclysm was a localized or world-wide event, all they know is that everyone has pulled out of the area they are currently in.
3) It's a game started by Whales, one that we wish him best on, but that is intrinsically different in gameplay than C:DDA. Where C:DDA aims to be a survival-type sim (similar to DF adventure mode) Cata 2 is a much more goal oriented game (capture the power plants or something like that) and will have an actual "win" condition. It's also still very early in development with a very long way to go before it even begins to close with C:DDA in terms of content. AFAIK none of the Cata devs are planning to drop DDA development, if we're going to spend time putting effort into a game we're gonna do it as the game we've already been working on, not switch to a new one and lose everything we've done so far.

(Personal opinion here: I'm kinda skeptical about following games from people that have already dropped development on one of them. Experience has taught me that attempting to restart a whole project over from the beginning to make it "better" is an easy habit to fall into, and one that means you end up with a game that never works.)

It would be brutally difficult and probably won't work. In other words, it's absolutely dwarven!

Or you can send them to go try to collect items in a category where they have a chance of simply not showing back up again. What is really going to get people, if you have an npc who is apart of your settlement who has an addiction problem, they start to demand you get them either the substance or the materials for the substance. But in general trying to provide food might be an issue...maybe...I actually haven't looked into it too much...

Check the cata forums, its somewhere but I think it stagnated and has retreated to the swamp again.

I know this isnt the right bug reporting process, or even the official forum for the game, but climbing off of a fence and onto a shopping cart parked next to the fence seems to reliably generate a non-fatal error.

I once got one when going onto the fence from a cart, but this is less reliable in reproducing.

Being surplus from the military.

Apparently either the owner had a massive amount of cash, or it "fell off a truck."

Say...

I thought of playing as a dorf in Cataclysm.

How would you suggest going about doing this?

I figured I'd have slightly below average intelligence but insane everything else, but the real problem is profession. What do you think: hobo or blacksmith?

I'd say Hobo, primarily because of the alcohol addiction.

I'd say blacksmith, then quickly power over to the liquor store and get a strong alcohol addiction.

I wish the factions worked along with NPCs, cause the game feels alot like DF adventure just with a legit crafting system. You play for a while and have lots of fun for a few days but then get bored and wait for the next release

Yeah, the idea of just coming across a big walled off area run by NPCs trying to reclaim the world is quite appealing.

Or even starting said commune yourself!
One of my primary zombie fantasies is a rooftop survivor city, where they've collapsed like most/all of the stairs up, and use bridges and stuff between roofs, and winches up and down, maybe.

So, the story so far:

First, Urist McApocalypse tried to raid a town. He failed utterly because he was on Static Spawn.

Next, he ran north. He didn't have any liquids and got really thirsty. However, he found a military drop spot and picked up some explosives and an MRE.

Afterwards, he found an LMOE shelter. He tried to drink the water, but it was poisoned. A little while later, he did it again. And again. And again.

He is now apparently impervious to the effects of poisoned water. Which sucks, because Urist tried to get his survival skill up by repeatedly making digging sticks in order to make a stone pot.

A few pieces of cooked meat later, he trained cooking up high enough to make it. Major "derp" moment.
