This is a couple leagues higher than I thought.
Where would a creature like the D&D, CR 2 imp fit in?

Also, would you mind having your eladrin spread word of my town as a safe haven? Ther'll be a temple for you in the turn after this one if you do.(and if you accept I physically cannot go back on this)

or they could build a temple for the plague devil in return of no plagues within your town for a while

And when the champions inevitably fight each other and absorb their power, the strongest champion (whom i will rename Carolus) will be able to kill 20-40 imps at his base power. Damn. That is enough to kill a Lesser God at his maximum base potential with power to spare, at his least base power potential it is still enough to kill a Fairy Lord.

Again a demon can just slap your entire warband to death, and laugh at the same time

What do you mean weaker? Each champion at their base power can kill 1-2 imps solo. Carolus who will eventually get all the other's power will be able to solo Lesser Gods at his maximum base potential and solo Fairy Lords at his minimum base potential. And that means that Carolus can kill 2 demons solo.

Yeah, he's only human, so I assume that he'll be counted as a human magic user. Meaning that the strongest he could get is about the same level as a Fae Courtier.
