Palisades, trenches, and maybe some pit traps with foilage over them?
Those seem like the best medieval era traps at our disposal.

Have any of our trappers that are with us give tips and advice to the Duke's men, that's the best way to get them thinking of traps. Also, I agree we should be on the front lines harassing the foraging parties the siegers are sending out, and also be on the lookout for any supply caches we might enounter

No. I suppose there are similarities, but I'm fairly certain angry birds doesn't let me charge into a battalion of knights with a car made of circular saws.

Pits are a good idea, 3man. At the Battle of Lugdunum, Clodius Albinus used pits to good effect against Severus. Here's an extract from Dio Cassius:

Meantime the soldiers of Albinus arrayed on the
right wing, who had trenches hidden in front of them and pits in the earth
covered over only on the surface, approached as far as these snares and
hurled javelins from a distance. They did not go very far but turned back
as if frightened, with the purpose of drawing their foes into pursuit.
This actually took place. Severus's men, nettled by their brief charge and
despising them for their retreat after so short an advance, rushed upon
them without a thought that the whole intervening space could not be
easily traversed. When they reached the trenches they were involved in a
fearful catastrophe. The men in the front ranks as soon as the surface
covering broke through fell into the excavations and those immediately
behind stumbled over them, slipped, and likewise fell. The rest crowded
back in terror, their retreat being so sudden that they themselves lost
their footing, upset those in the rear, and pushed them into a deep
ravine. Of course there was a terrible slaughter of these soldiers as well
as of those who had fallen into the trenches, horses and men perishing in
one wild mass. In the midst of this tumult the warriors between the ravine
and the trenches were annihilated by showers of stones and arrows.

Many would dispute it, but at Lugdunum, three-quarters of the Roman Legions in the entire Empire slugged brutally at each other for two days, and it is possible to assert that the decline of Rome began with the institutional military knowledge and traditions lost when such a large number of veteran legionaries slaughtered each other. That is beyond the point here, though. I'm just agreeing that pits can be very deadly.

Palisades, on the other hand, might make our location seem too foreboding and well-prepared. They control where the enemy can attack, and we want the enemy to feel that we are open and vulnerable on the broad front that faces them. Our flanks should be put against natural obstacles naturally, but maybe our front should be rather inviting of overconfident attack. Maybe not full-blown palisades, just rows of wooden spikes driven into the ground near our lines to break up their formations as they get within halberd's reach. Overall, I like the hidden trenches better.

Have any of our trappers that are with us give tips and advice to the Duke's men, that's the best way to get them thinking of traps.

+1 to this, the experts can think of things we can't, and I believe also we have some siege engineers taught by the late Gunther Agnacious, too. RIP. We should also bring up those loads of the oil we've been planning.

Do we have horse archers? That would be a very effective addition to our harassing plans.

Also: we need to know to which degree is the horde armored, or if it is not armored at all. If it is not, we can take them out with arrows. If it is, we should make trenches to stop their movement.

I think our Rangers were trained in that kind of warfare. {Mal can you show us the unit's list to see what our boys are looking like?}

So two things we have so far. Rangers/spare Calvary units go harass the enemy horde in whatever way they can see. An finally Pit traps with foliage over them in random places to give us an advantage at the battle.

Last thing i was wondering if we can use the Bull tactic against the Sea raiders. The tactic is basically to leave a weak center that as it fights continues to fall back little by little and putting the extra troops on the flanks who will as the lines meet slaughter their way forward thus entrapping the middle.

not only that but we have platemail protecting us these guys probally have furs or leather at best protecting them. we can take him and once he's out the rest of the host will go into civil war for leadership.

the bear mauled us pretty badly. And these guys, or at the very least their leader, is going to have mail. Possibly quite heavy.

As a newer player, you may not have seen this bit, but the bear fight involved several outrageously good rolls in a row.

Yes i read but still we survived and as the song goes "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger". What im saying is with our skills and great fitness we have a chance at ripping the head of the hordes body. Think of all the guys we can save by beating this guy one on one? Mal can you post up Count Stone's skills please?

EDIT: Looking at the stats forget the duel i don't thing average armor and shield using is going to keep me confident against their warrior king.

Pulling this up for reference, as requested. Your core forces have not suffered any casualties, although some of your levy men have perished. A few of your men have "leveled up," so to speak. Date is also adjusted, per Gerv's discovery. By the time you march off, the month will be over, so I'll do a full update (to reflect your new capital of Curbiston) then.

Year 8, May

Probably should check out the new prisoners. We can speak the tribes names and check if any are from Gergal's tribe, test out a few of our insults, and maybe one even speaks our language. Joral can't be the only one.

Let's make sure that Luther, Fin and Oswald are properly armoured for battle. We don't want another Alan incident. In fact, Luther may be too heavy and unskilled at riding to join our fast-moving shenanigans, so let's keep him in camp, training for melee. Introduce him to Count Gorgan as a young fighter of promise whose further education in sword-play we would regard as a personal debt to be repaid. It never hurts to make Luther even more deadly.

Pit traps with foliage over them in random places to give us an advantage at the battle.

The trench idea was better. Long hidden trenches around the entirety of our lines would be better than random small hidden pits. With 3000 men, the Duke ought to be able to do it in time. Or at least long sections of it.

The great thing about the trench idea is the inescapable horror of it. It's not a pit that can be dodged around, and the people behind you can't see and push forward, you push back to halt but get propelled down into it anyway. The charge loses all momentum. If ten ranks charge forward, five could fall deep enough to be crushed by the others, the others have to traverse a macabre obstacle: walking on faces and squirming torsos, hands of victims below flailing about and grabbing them as they clamber over. Imagine getting across that with an axe and shield in your hands. Parts of the line may rout entirely as in the example of Lugdunum. All the while that the horde mills there in shock, arrows rain down. Good stuff.

I love the trench Idea, we should put a few around the area in places they would run to escape.

And it left us horribly injured.

Gerv? You are scary, but you have a good grasp of the battlefield. Your coldly pragmatic attitude has questionable appropriateness in times of peace, but you may be the best at times of war.
