Hey gerv, once again that's a nicely thought out battle plan, though it'll require us scouting out the raiders in order to confirm things are as you speculate :).

Other than that, +1

No. I suppose there are similarities, but I'm fairly certain angry birds doesn't let me charge into a battalion of knights with a car made of circular saws.

Well, probably not, seeing as we're looking at it with an understanding of science that these guys never had.  But if we 'accidentally' sumbled upon it, guided by an all powerful and all knowing hand(of the GM), well, maybe...
Also, a signal corps would likely be easier and more feasible.  And, you know, more period appropriate.

Actually they had explosives in the middle ages and before but they were rather expensive to make and dangerous to store.

Really? Explosives? Dangeous?

Seriously, though. Yeah, explosives are pretty old. The only questions are why and how would we use them.

Mal isn't gonna let us explode things. Come on, if you wanna see a bomb, then I suggest this.

You guys, seriously, please don't tell me our best plan is to fling cow poop at them.

We could also see if we could turn their mills into bombs.

That's a... remarkably good idea.  And I believe that Mal said something along the lines of period appropriate tech, which explosives are, after all, the first guns started cropping up at about 1000AD.  And for obvious reasons explosives would've been around for even longer.

The only problem is using them we're going to need to prepare the battle field a few days ahead of using them any meaningful way, other then suicide carts.

Year 7, May

Lots of roleplaying in May. So let's get going.

With your new found responsibility weighing heavily on your shoulders, you act decisively. You dash off a note to Marna, instructing her to rule Feroshire in your stead, and congratulating her on the fact that she is now a Countess. You also send notes to your new vassals Sir Denton and Sir Percival, explaining your new position and instructing them to raise their levies and march to Curbiston with haste to relieve the Duke.

Settling in to the Keep in Curbiston, an imposing structure much grander than your tower in Feroshire, you draw a council with Fin, Luther, and Oswald. You explain that you intend to parlay with this "Bandit King," and to either win him to your side or crush him under your heel. They agree on that course of action, citing the need to secure the County before you strike out for the Duke's lands.

You send for The Rat, as well as Victor Irlof. You appoint Irlof Acting Mayor of Curbiston, trusting him to see to the reconstruction and repopulation of the city as you marshal your forces for the march on Torchester. The Rat is instructed to attempt to reconnect with his old network, and to search for news from downstream. Luther is left to receive the incoming Knights. Fin and Oswald join a small force of five Rangers and Ten Halberdiers, which accompanies you as you set out for Pigsend.

The journey to the village takes roughly a day. Not wanting to arrive at night, you make camp, and then take a brisk pace in the morning to arrive just after sunup. Young men glare warily at your party, and a few scamper off into warrens and thin alleyways between hovels. You even see a few children here or there, and the occasional woman who scurries out of sight when spotted.

After you stop a man and ask him where the Bandit King resides, he indicates a hovel much like any of the others. You thank him, and head towards it. Dismounting, you push aside a leather hide hanging in a rough doorway and enter with Fin and Oswald, leaving your troops in the street. Your eyes take a moment to adjust to the dim lighting, but then they flash on a middle aged man sitting on a simple chair, carefully shaping a stave into a bow. He is unremarkable, of average height and weight, with light brown hair and a mustache.

He finishes his pass along the forming bow, takes a look at his handiwork, then looks up at you, taking you in. "You must be one of the local nobility. To what do I owe this pleasure?"

Roleplaying, go!

Say that we were told that he is the bandit king, and ask if this is true.
Also introduce ourselves.

After that we ought to tell him that we are willing to make him lord of this land if he raises a levy of as many troops as possible and gives us command of them.  And heavily implicate what's going down if he doesn't.

Offer to shake his hand, a peasant's form of greeting. Nobility bow. Remember our Man of the People easy and simple good naturedness. "I'm Sam Stone, what some used to snigger and call the Peasant Knight, though they'll have to call me the Peasant Count from now on. Seems like a lot of us are getting the bump up these days--that happens in a situation as bad as this. So, what's the story of this place?"
