Year 7, MayLots of roleplaying in May. So let's get going. With your new found responsibility weighing heavily on your shoulders, you act decisively. You dash off a note to Marna, instructing her to rule Feroshire in your stead, and congratulating her on the fact that she is now a Countess. You also send notes to your new vassals Sir Denton and Sir Percival, explaining your new position and instructing them to raise their levies and march to Curbiston with haste to relieve the Duke.
Settling in to the Keep in Curbiston, an imposing structure much grander than your tower in Feroshire, you draw a council with Fin, Luther, and Oswald. You explain that you intend to parlay with this "Bandit King," and to either win him to your side or crush him under your heel. They agree on that course of action, citing the need to secure the County before you strike out for the Duke's lands.
You send for The Rat, as well as Victor Irlof. You appoint Irlof Acting Mayor of Curbiston, trusting him to see to the reconstruction and repopulation of the city as you marshal your forces for the march on Torchester. The Rat is instructed to attempt to reconnect with his old network, and to search for news from downstream. Luther is left to receive the incoming Knights. Fin and Oswald join a small force of five Rangers and Ten Halberdiers, which accompanies you as you set out for Pigsend.
The journey to the village takes roughly a day. Not wanting to arrive at night, you make camp, and then take a brisk pace in the morning to arrive just after sunup. Young men glare warily at your party, and a few scamper off into warrens and thin alleyways between hovels. You even see a few children here or there, and the occasional woman who scurries out of sight when spotted.
After you stop a man and ask him where the Bandit King resides, he indicates a hovel much like any of the others. You thank him, and head towards it. Dismounting, you push aside a leather hide hanging in a rough doorway and enter with Fin and Oswald, leaving your troops in the street. Your eyes take a moment to adjust to the dim lighting, but then they flash on a middle aged man sitting on a simple chair, carefully shaping a stave into a bow. He is unremarkable, of average height and weight, with light brown hair and a mustache.
He finishes his pass along the forming bow, takes a look at his handiwork, then looks up at you, taking you in. "You must be one of the local nobility. To what do I owe this pleasure?"
