I don't want to lose Feroshire after we spent so much time working on it...
How would we lose it?

Yup, see if we can't press the bandit forces into service.

In the middle of a war, our place is where we can react fastest. The rest is a consideration for peace-time, but as a military lord, we are now residing in and  leading from Curbiston. Marna can direct our home fief ably.

I agree that we need to parley with the Bandit King, but what is the Peasant Count willing to put on the table for him? Show me a noble lineage that doesn't dissolve into a pack of bandits at the fifth and sixth remove. For me, the circumstances demanding that every god-fearing Kingdom man turn against the invaders, it is even acceptable to offer him a title of nobility and legitimate lands that he and his sons can hold and respectably keep for generations.

Maybe we can pull a Stannis/Davos (GoT) on him...

Well, yes. I suspected that the discussion was longer-term.

Well...that requires three things:
1. That the Bandit King be trustworthy with such power. We'll have to meet with him to be sure.
2. The ducal and ideally royal acceptance, if nothing else, of promoting such a man to a noble position.
3. That Counts actually are allowed to do so. This is a really bad time to look treasonous...

A Count can promote someone to Knighthood, a Duke can promote to Count and below, and the King promotes to Duke and below. It is not uncommon for a Count to Knight someone, but promoting a bunch of people will cause some to question the validity of your appointments.

We don't need to trust him any more than than Foles trusted us. If you are actually trusting the people that you rely on, you're doing it wrong. Keep your friends close, and enemies closer. Utimately, we will sneak the Rat into his forces to spy on him, though. I'm thinking that setting the Rat up as a pimp would be a good way to "break the ice" with a pack of shady young men. That is the Rat's call, though, so let's not bicker about whatever confidence ruse he chooses, but he will find a way into a freshly formed mob fairly easy. Besides how would he betray us to a pack of savage foreigners with a strange language?

My biggest concern is that the Bandit King will continue to be, you know...bandit-ey when he's appointed.

Basically, what I'm saying is: "Contact him before starting the paperwork."

I say we move our court to the County seat, as it already has the infrastructure, and maintains strong defensive and political positions, as it has been the seat for quite some time.  Furthur, I say we knight Fin and make him the lord of Ferroshire.
Secondly, let's talk with this Bandit king, say we offer to make him a knight if he agrees to help us with the sea raiders and reigns in his people, as well as following the normal laws of the land.
Thirdly, let's raise an army and attack those bastard sea raiders.

And if we don't like this Bandit king, we can always have him die on the battle field.

after some more thought I am in favour of moving our court to Curbiston, Its really where we want to be to coordinate military things. I dont want to leave Marna and our family behind but we should prepare and secure an escape route for them when things get hairy.

I'm not in favour of handing off Feroshire. we should hold onto it atleast untill people start complaining. We need to keep Isaac's future in mind.

Before we go press the Bandit king into nobility theres still alot to consider before then, How will the population he has potentially been harassing react? how will our vassals react? who is this guy even? lets keep it in mind, but its too early to consider it really.

on another note, I would really like to learn what happend to Uriel Lope. hes the mayor of Carshire right? Carshire seems to be alright so I guess he is doing alright aswell?
I doubt he'd be happy about us ascending to count, Considering the little tale we spun about a foles needing to rule in Folsden. we should smooth things over with him. That were acting on accord of the duke and for the good of the county.

Lope was the County Marshal, not the mayor of Carshire. His whereabouts are unknown.

We could have Fin be a...temp (whatever you call the temporary ruler until the actual ruler is fit to rule)

That's why we arrange for an accident on the field of battle, and then we go in and break up the settlement, and re-settle it with proper people.  If they do not desist on being bandits we kill them all.

Screw him, we have orders from the Duke, so if he don't like it we can give him a job shoveling shit.  Or we could have him be the new ruler of pigsden once we take out the bandit king.
