Hm, hadn't considered all of those. I'm not sure if the Raiders could have a legitimate claim to Curbiston or would even care about such things (or know of its circumstances)...but, all things considered...Stone doesn't have anything better to do.

It's not that the Raiders would occupy Curbiston itself--but getting rid of them anywhere now requires re-establishing the feudal hierarchy. The sooner that Folesden has an acknowledged Count co-ordinating with the Duke co-ordinating with the King, the sooner we can start resisting effectively. By pushing ahead before other ambitious lords think to assert themselves, we save infighting and become effective sooner.

I concur with Garv. Get into the Count's old place and see whats what.

If there is noone there, either take the city and sit in the counts seat, or take everything that can be of use to us back to Feroshire and burn the plague-ridden place to the ground.

And if Arthur is alive and enough of his court is dead, he could always have an accident and disappear into the mass graves.
Because we are gonna have a lot more experience coordianting the sorta stuff the county is going to need than he does.  We've done it all before, just on a smaller scale.

The former if possible. The latter...too many things could go wrong.

And if Arthur is alive and enough of his court is dead, he could always have an accident and disappear into the mass graves.
No. Arthur is "ours", and the biggest thing is making sure someone (who isn't antagonistic to us) fills the power void. No void, no problem.

Arthur has a valid (-ish) claim on the throne. He didn't just happen upon it by chance, he was (possibly) born into that position. If he's alive, we should help him as much as we can.

Fine, we give him a nice and proper burial, and make him a hero who died fending off the bandit hordes.

Or...don't kill him?
An established, justified, and loyal Count is far more useful than a tenuous claim that many will doubtlessly be going for. Owen was married to one of the Count's daughters or something, he had a claim. Us? We found Arthur, that's it.

The best claim we could get is getting Arthur to claim us as his Heir, till he has his own child, and unless that works lets keep him intact.

I'd still prefer not to kill him. He's useful, you know? Gives us deniability and such.

Definitely avoid killing Arthur if he's alive. Though I do like the idea of having him name us his heir until such time as he has his own blood heir to inherit.

We shouldn't press it; if we do, and Arthur dies shortly thereafter (for whatever reason), it implicates us.

True. Possibly something to start bringing up in a few months if he is still alive at that point. Just as a "You know, if you had died without designating an heir..." point. Not pressing it, but just letting him come to his own conclusions.

In any case, though, if Curbiston is in too bad shape, move Arthur to our own turf. We can see a horde of claimants asking for his life, and it is never save in Curbiston.

Did anyone consider that the vikings could easily been infected by the plague?

In a way, I hope so. They won't stay long in this accursed land.
