Actually, I changed my vote over to A when Gerv convinced me that we could avoid being seen as a traitor.

Alright I made the necessary changes. I'll try to look out for changes in votes like that better.

Even before I informed him of my vote change, it was pretty overwhelming.

Now there's not much left to do but pray that our assumptions are correct and see if anyone makes a really, really good argument for B.

its probably mostly moot right now, but how about we camp outside his house with a significant army and tell him to go away?

anyway I'll vote B.

A siege? Well, it could work, but among other things it has the significant problem that if we surround his house, "tell[ing] him to go away" wouldn't go over well...

it depends how overwhelming the odds are, also depends on howbad he wants to be count, is he willing to risk his life for it? or would he rather slither away when given the chance?

How can he "slither away" if we've surrounded his house?

Sieges don't tend to scare people away. Sieges are for when you can't scare people away, and you can't get at them by other means, so you wait them out. If you put someone to siege, they tend to fight harder, because there's no way out. You could try to convince him to surrender, but cornered animals tend to fight much more fiercely, and he seems too proud to surrender.

if he renounces his countship and recognises Arthur as the legitimate count we could always just let him go on his merry way. (though the choice would be Arthurs I guess, but I think we'll have ways to influence his decision)

sure he could go build support outside of the county and be a general pain in the ass, but the only way to really stop that is to straight up murder the guy. (which asside from being a pretty 'evil' thing to do will no doubt have its own negative consequences.)

what I'm getting at, is that there doesn't have to be bloodshed when there is overwhelming support for Arthur.

Yes, but a siege is the wrong way to go about things.

Okay. How about we get inside the town, if possible, and we march to the Keep while gathering support, but we try to avoid striking the first blow?

If we get access to the town, and if we lead a popular uprising to his keep, then we can offer him safe passage out of town for a renunciation of his wife's claim. It might seem a bit hopeless if half the town is parked outside the keep. Or maybe he's proud and stubborn, thinks aid is coming from outside, and we have to assault. Who knows?

I'm morbidly curious to find out what adjective will be used for our relationship with him, if he survives this somehow. Antagonistic doesn't seem to cover it all, at that point. The wise thing would be to go to extreme lengths to ensure he doesn't survive, but having an enraged rival with a somewhat tarnished claim on our liege's lands could be interesting down the road...

Hi! Lurker posting for the first time in this thread.
I support plan A, it seems the one with the best odds to me, but I haven't read the whole thred, so I can't make good arguments (feel free to ignore my vote if you wish).

About what to do with the count if he surrenders, why not let the people do whatever they want with him? That way we are not guilty of anything, it was his own people the ones who murdered him anyway...

They are just commoners, after all. They can't be held to our noble standards of gallant conduct. We could even appear to offer him safe passage, and a mob of commoners led by the Rat attacks him against our express orders as he tries to leave the city. But that might be evil, particularly if his wife is with him.
