I take back everything I just presumed. I was wrong! Spinal damage would have been apparent much earlier and much worse when the trauma was fresh, not suddenly manifesting now. I can't think of what else this would be, but since it can't realistically be spinal damage, it must be something else. Maybe the wee folk are involved.

Punctured lung as the result of the sudden activity whilst we had broken ribs.
The puncture being recent, mind you.

Our ribs weren't broken enough to be displaced and puncture a lung. That'd be evident quickly.

we might aswell send a letter to sir Owen, informing him that challenging him to a duel was a mistake. We were hoping our ailment would have recovered in time but it seems those good old ribs will require some more time to heal according to the local healer, Apologise for the awkwardness and congratulate the man on his new position.

If we're maimed, then we're maimed nothing we can do about that now, the only thing we can do is take it easy on the physical side to not make things worse than they may or may not be. Whatever happens, we'll adapt

If we were maimed, we wouldn't have been on our feet the night after the attack, whether in pain or otherwise. The massive bruising pressing on the spinal tissue would have bedridden us, so ignore my earlier guesses. It's definitely not spinal damage, guys.

Actually, to be bluntly honest, I think Mal is just tired of this story and wants to do something else, and that's okay. Four months is an impressive run!

If he is, he would usually come out and say it or take a break from writing.

I am not tired of the story by any means. On the contrary, I enjoy coming up with situations and seeing how you all respond.

Your injury was severe and you were bedridden for several days, if I recall correctly. As I have mentioned several times, I am lighter on detail and more focused on what makes an interesting tale. Nagging bear injury is compelling to me, not an indication that I am giving up. Hope you all see it that way too.

Glad to hear it.
So, let's dash off a letter, fortify Silverhills, and begin to train the miners as engineers.  Sound good ma peeps?

So it is possible to heal?

I'm guessing this is the DM telling us that there are actual consequences in game from doing things like hunting a bear and that Leroy Jenkins would not necessarily do well in his game. Quite frankly, we're lucky to be alive without far more severe injuries from a damn 9 foot tall momma bear defending her cubs. That crap will mess you up and I'm surprised the results were that good.

Also bastards.... :) :P

Sure. You could heal. Or it could get worse... say if you pushed it somehow, or were struck in the ribs forcefully again. This is bad, but your character is not (at the moment) resigned to a life of physical infirmity.
