Unless I read that wrong, we also killed everyone on the second boat, so we have two of their craft. If we follow them at a two hour's delay, we would go in fully loaded boats and our felluca, since speed is no longer a factor. As many as 50 men.

They probably don't expect the usual sheep and peasants around here that they've been slaughtering to give chase even after a victory, so they'll feel safe after putting some distance between us. They'll make camp, tend their wounded, etc. We'll spot these campfires and hit them again, for good measure.

we have 3 of their longboats.

there were 6 longboats in total. 3 escaped.

Well, the third boat's status is a little ambiguous; it says they were driven off, so I'm assuming they managed to get back into the boat and GTFO.

Also, I just realized something. These guys came right up the river for us correct? remember what's between us and where the invaders are camped out around the Duke's city? That's right, the Count's town!

For them to simply sail up the river past all the fortifications on the river the Count likely has means either two things; the count really IS complicit with the invaders(unlikely, but not actually out of character or impossible), or something's very wrong and the Count has his own problems(like a force seiging HIS town as well, or even he's been sacked!). Either way, I'm seriously doubting we can count(heh) on any help from him at this point. We should still send a messenger to his town tho to at least see whats up, but we operate right now assuming the count is incapacitated(this also means having our knightly friends rush down for a war council)

No. I suppose there are similarities, but I'm fairly certain angry birds doesn't let me charge into a battalion of knights with a car made of circular saws.

If they took the 3rd boat, 4 ships would have sail back down the river.

I think our archers slaughtered them before they could take the 3 beached ship back down the river.

In that case, it could be upto 70 of our men. Let's recover as many arrows from the bodies and boats as possible, get whatever stocks were left in the town, and put them on our boats. Make plenty of fire arrows again.

This time, I would recommend our boats dropping us and 30 halberdiers off on whichever bank we see the campfires in the distance, then they float out to where the boats are, anchoring midstream there, and launch fire arrows into the lightly guarded boats, setting them ablaze. That will be our cue to rush into the camp as the vikings panic and run to douse their ships.

I bet they've never had the people around here actually fight back. They'll be in their nightshirts, confused, running about.

There are three boats that were abandoned, their warriors killed.

Seems good. But we need to restart production and harvesting.

Alright, we do as Gerv said, and follow and finish them. When that's done, we sail back. Hey Mal, have any of our messengers returned yet? I'm hoping the one we sent to the count comes back with ANY sort of info on what's going on that might explain how the hell they got past his city, though regardless, when we get back from the counter-raid we'll set the refugees in getting the harvest in ASAP so we can have enough food for what seems to be a long and brutal campaign, take the time to craft more arrows, then send out harassing forces of dragoons.

We should be back in a day or two, unless something really bad happens. Until then, our council has standing orders from before we were interrupted so rudely.

We should restart production but we should double on our patrols plus make sure each patrol each carry an item that can make a ton of noise.

I think he meant order it before we leave so that if that something bad happens it's still being done. I'm actually for it, since we'll need to take at least a few minutes to restock before setting off, so it stands to reason we can quickly order harvesting parties organized. I also suggest any metalworkers in the levies be detached and ordered to do nothing but mass produce arrowheads

+1 weapon production is more important than levies.

Righto then. In the meantime, can we think of anything else we can do? (I don't)

Righto then. In the meantime, can we think of anything else we can do? (I don't)

Let's dash off this letter to our friendliest neighbors:

"To Sirs Denton and Percival, greetings and grave tidings,

My dear sirs, I am honored to have been granted your friendship over the years, and now must draw upon your goodwill to request that you come to Feroshire with such fighting men as you are able to spare. No doubt you have seen the women and children streaming past your lands of late, including my own dear wife heavy with child. Yet unknown to you and any other god-fearing man beyond my fief, the first of many victories against a strange host has been won this day. I write this letter with blood on my surcoat, having repulsed a formidable invading force of six score or more sea-devils swarming in from the river. The Duke is besieged, this much you know--but the Count is also strangely no avail in protecting those of us upstream. Therefore let us all gather to stand at Feroshire together, or perhaps we shall all fall on our separate fields.

Wishing to remain, Sirs,
Your earnest friend and servant,
Sir Sam Stone, Armigero de Feroshire"

The time has come to stop dallying around about this question. Either we get as many people to guard Feroshire as a bulwark for everything else upstream, or we will lack manpower to truly pursue the aggressive harrying that we plan. That requires we show a bit of leadership in a regrettable vacuum. Also, we may wish to drive our sheep upstream to their lands. And our gold. And anything not related to war and production. That will show them we really do think our lands are the final bastion.
