That first boat is empty and we're right here. Are you thinking what I'm thinking? If we get us and ten good archers in that boat, we can chase them downriver for good measure, and possibly capture some of the ships that are laden down with more men.

We are low on ammo, dont know how many casualties we took for sure, what condition our standing troops are in and we dont have anyone competent enough to sail the long-ships at then moment.

The Harvest is closing in and if we dont get the harvest in, we will stare, we need the women and children back, take in the harvest, resume production and construction of the walls.

If we really want to send harassing troops out, send out teams of dragoon archers and rangers to harass the enemies supply lines.

Also, no to chasing them straight away. It would negatively effect morale as we could be seen by the troops as abandoning the fallen and wounded.

True as well, we need a harvest and we need to take stock of our troops before sending them ouyt.


Goddamit, I'm not sure what's the right course of action.....Wait. If we have any relatively fresh archers with a decent supply of arrows, have some of the fishermen man the boat and give chase. Tell them to travel no more than 10km down the river to insure they've gone into full retreat, and then come back. Take a few days to rest the troops after that battle, bring back the women and children to bring the harvest(under guard of course), and use the longboat and our felucca to create the navy I've been going on about. Once the harvest is in, and if we haven't gotten reinforcements from the King yet, yes send out dragoons to harrass the enemy supply lines

No. I suppose there are similarities, but I'm fairly certain angry birds doesn't let me charge into a battalion of knights with a car made of circular saws.

Let's give them to understand our mettle, and show them that they are not the only wolves in this land. Grab the longboat, grab our felucca. A longboat is similar to merchant knurrs of the time. Nothing special after the 900s.

Just to be clear, there may be upwards of 60 warriors in those three boats.

In that case, send both boats as Gerv said, but try not to engage and just make sure they're not simply sailing a bit back down the river and making camp to ambush us later

Tell them in advance? As a natural-born archer ourselves, we can whisper that command in their ears whenever we ourselves decide to turn back. Look, the "we're out of ammo' is a dodge. Mal himself says the archers didn't get off many shots, so the quivers are full. The Duke's lands are but three days by boat. We can chase them a good long while, and return without using much time. those boats are full of thick stout men and loot from raiding. Let's catch some still.

Also, right now we got more refugees than we can handle... no, the women aren't needed. We have refugee men for everything that's planted.

Just to be clear, there may be upwards of 60 warriors in those three boats.

They don't have anything better than axes to throw, and they're demoralized. We can pepper them with arrows as far as possible. Laying aside a ship is difficult even for crews that aren't routing. They probably think we're devils from the beating we administered already.

Well Gerv The problem is that even if we move IMMEDIATELY, we'd still need a bit of time to get the men on the boats and to get underway, wich also means we're probably not catching them if they get a good headstart on us(plus sniping with a bow from the deck of a ship is a much different proposition than sniping from land).. I'm not saying no to your idea, but we'll need to be realistic and expect them to get away without us being able to engage them. Still, I'm for sending the boats out, and using refugees to help with the harvest is a better idea. Hopefully we can catch up to them and finish them :)

the only problem I see with chasing after them in boats is that they're most likely much better adapted to working their boats.

sure we have longer range of attack, but they know what they're doing.


yeah... I think its a bad idea chasing after them in boats, have the rangers mount up and make sure they don't camp too close.

That's not 'right now' because 'right now' is the sword in our hands stained with blood, and the boat meters away rocking quietly in the waves. All that you consider right now loses nothing by becoming 'tomorrow' after we've hunted them down.

And at the cost of repeating myself yet again, also institute that navy(we even now have a better ship for it!).

I'm still for chasing them in the boats, but there's nothing that doesn't say we can't send a unit or two of mounted archer along to support from shore
Okay, how about this: we appear to let them go, and we follow them at two hour's delay, hit them at nightfall when they make landfall to camp. We fall upon them there?

Or we do this. Though keep in mind they can go quite a distance before nightfall....and that's assuming they make camp!

They probably don't expect the usual sheep and peasants around here that they've been slaughtering to give chase even after a victory, so they'll feel safe after putting some distance between us. They'll make camp, tend their wounded, etc. We'll spot these campfires and hit them again, for good measure.

...Wow, I didn't notice, you are correct we have 2 boats of theirs! That does mean we can probably field at least a parity of forces to theirs, so I support you 100% +1
