Haha. Everyone is going to be so pissed if our guy dies.

Ya, but atleast he will die in honor.

At a carnival.
Are you aware of what a medieval carnival was? Because people were shitting on the saints on that day. Literally sometimes. It was basically a "sin free" day.

I would rather "honorably" die in the theater of combat, brandishing a halberd and wearing the scraps of my armor that have survived the onslaught and the blood of my enemies, struck down by exhaustion, overheating, and dehydration, but never a blade. And as my men see me collapse they pick up my corpse and carry me to my enemies steps, crashing through their doors and placing me upon the throne, on top of the now crushed to death once ruler.

But you know, dying at a carnival works too.

Tournaments were serious business. This really ought to be viewed as low-level warfare rather than a carefree carnival. And earlier tournaments that focused on the melee were even more indistinguishable from actual combat.

It appears decided... the final tally: 5 Aye to 3 Nay

And so for better or worse we ride. For Glory, for the honor of our lands and the favor of our dear beloved Marna we ride! God willing and by the holy favor of providence we shall triumph over the wicked and deceitful and emerge Victorious!

FOR GLORY MY BROTHERS!
FOR HONOR!
FOR LORDSHIP

we should probably see a priest before the event starts...

Roger dodger. Get a new saddle, Let the Duke know of our "misfortune", Let him also know that we ride regardless (if we can find a new saddle). OWN.

and find a priest to confess our sins to, their ought to be a score of them here in case anyone needs last rites.

Are you nuts? I am all for jousting at least once, but openly challenging the count is downright crazy...
+1

From a certain point of view, yes.
From a certain point of view, Darth Vader killed Anakin Skywalker.

Anyways, for reasons of honor, Marna, and all that stuff, I suggest we joust.
For reasons of safety and sanity, I suggest we show the sabotaged saddle to the duke before jousting, so everyone will be on the lookout for other foul play (and so we can more easily get safe equipment lent from the Duke or someone else we and he can trust).

Roger dodger. Get a new saddle, Let the Duke know of our "misfortune", Let him also know that we ride regardless (if we can find a new saddle). OWN.
and find a priest to confess our sins to, their ought to be a score of them here in case anyone needs last rights.
I have no objections to this.
Let's hope we won't need the last rites, though...

Hail, Maldevious, full of wit.
The dice are with thee.
Blessed art thou amongst gamemasters,
and blessed is the fruit of thy mind, Lordship.
Pray for us roleplayers,
and forgive our anachronisms,
now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

You don't get it, do you?

We're not just jousting to try and win the tourney, or to win Marna's favor.
We're jousting so we don't lose our honor and stuff. Without it, we're little better than a rich peasant.
