Something like 20-25 hours per week per household should work. Each family can have two people who work an hour a day each day to pay that off. More than that seems silly.

I assume some of the food from the communal farm would be used to feed the PC?
Yes and yes. Also another high priority is setting up a bazaar with stalls, so trade can take place and we can get some coins in these farmers hands. Probably a lot of food trade early on.
Oh, sure. For now, designate a Bazaar and make it a BYOS deal until we get people who, you know, stop by to spend their money on stuff.
Easy set up, clear land, canvas colored tents. We can become more permanent as we get more popularity.
Do we even have tents at the moment?

Sunday, saterday market?
Saturday, but yes, probably something like that.

Saturday market, everyday! You just can't beat that, people!

Not on hand, not hard to make, even if we have to use wool or linen.

I propose a once a week/ even once a month market rather than a daily market. A market is only viable if there are enough people. By picking one date, we prevent spreading out the visitors to much.

Year 1, June

At the start of the month, you begin asking around about the settlements and lands upstream and downstream of you. One of the older men explains that downstream at the intersection of the Parlon and the main river, lies lands owned by the Count. It is known as Folesden. Upstream of you lies a parcel of land ruled by an old knight, Sir Blake Denton. Even further upstream, where the Parlon is barely a creek, lies a large abbey called Hemswood known for its dark beers.

You also issue your first proclamation this month. After much thinking, you decide that there will be a communal farm where citizens must contribute time each week. The food will be used to feed you, as well as for trade and use for paying your liege lord. In times of need, the food will also protect from famine. Citizens may also serve on various building projects in lieu of farm work, if they are so inclined, or simply contribute a small portion of their own food to a central store. The people grumble slightly at the idea, but you don't hear of any outright disagreement, so for now you feel confident.

To that end, a small warehouse is built to house the food, and a communal farm is designated. Work goes smoothly, and you notice that one young man has been integral in all of your successful construction projects. His name is Ian Wood, and he explains that he used to be an apprentice carpenter before his master was killed in a war. You decide that he would make a good foreman for your building projects in the future.

You also decree that every Saturday, there shall be a market held in your nascent town (which still doesn't have a proper name). Unfortunately, no one seems to have much to trade, and only a few farmers show up by the end of the month. Still, you'll keep at it, and hope that it gets larger in the future. You build a few stalls, which you will rent out to anyone who pays for them, but all of the farmers are too poor at the moment to do so. They simply set out their produce in the dirt.

Ask around whether there are any metals or minerals in the neighbourhood. If any, think about a mine.

Let's set up some tasks for building, lumberjackery or carpentry, and put woody in charge of overseeing it. We should take a ride upstream to meet our neighbor, could we possibly scrounge up an offering? Possibly he could recommend a surveyer of lands to us.

Wood the carpenter xD
Well, yeah. Smith and Mason aren't coincidentally both professions and surnames, you know.

Incidentally, I told you we didn't need stalls...

No arguments here.

If there are any, we could also try gathering them from the river. Kinda unlikely, considering the width of the thing. It'll have lost most of the minerals already.

We could also try to set up some kind of fish trap, but I'm afraid we're not going to be allowed to do so. It can hamper trade, and these kind of traps are useually very effective.

We should visit our lord downstream. That is important. We need to find his needs, need to know our rights and duties and may ask for some help (teacher that would make us literate, for example... Or some kind of wife)

GM NOTE: You are currently evenly split on whether to visit upstream knight or downstream lord. There will probably be a short roleplay section whomever you visit, so let me know who you'd like to meet.

We've got a month per turn; why not both?
