I find it a little strange as well. I was expecting at least SOME sign of at least a nominal military presence. Either they're supremely confident they're not expecting resistance, or there's something else going on(such as a trap). I agree to our scouts looking again, taking a more thorough approach

No. I suppose there are similarities, but I'm fairly certain angry birds doesn't let me charge into a battalion of knights with a car made of circular saws.

We could send a few men to tell them to surrender and if they don't we should have all our other men, except our cavalry ready to send a few volleys of fire arrows into the village.

there will be a language barrier, I don't think Parley is an option here.

I do kind of wonder why these people are settling in hostile lands... is their home even more hostile?

Why did the British colonize half the places they did riches, but it does seem that they are migrating away from something, you don't colonize a hostile area with women and children that already kicked you out once for no reason.

Also on the surrender idea I think herding them into the center of the village would be good enough.

I find this suspicious these invaders will bring their families along with the, this has to be some sort of trap. I think we should proceed with caution, maybe we should scout out the surrounding area before going in.
Or they're colonizing.
LEaving them undefended is, however, a bit odd...

Make them surrender if we can.

The footsoldiers can be lead by the rangers in several groups from several directions upto the edge of the thick forest, and surround the perimeter. We and the heavy horse thunder into the village from along the beach line, hopefully chasing the non-combatants into flight toward the forests, where they can be collected.

Kill anyone attacking with a weapon. You do not sacrifice our lives for enemy villagers. Sorry, it's a weak impulse to say that enemy villagers are as worthy of survival as our own troops. We are not a modern army, we are not winning hearts and minds here.

I can't argue here. After all, they're dangerous.
Try not to kill anyone who isn't dangerous, though.

Can't argue either. I am advocating for not killing them IF we can afford to, aka they don't threaten us. Otherwise defend yourselves.

Okay, then we are agreed.

The bowmen should find good makeshift staves for their part, but don't hesitate to snipe or use a better melee weapon if they see an armed young man running at them. Halberdiers should be well-mixed among the bowmen.

If the hilly terrain has a steep slope near the village, allow our men to march themselves from the woodline and into the open ground in all places but there, with the group there remaining hidden behind that ridge line. The villagers run that way and tire themselves running frantically up the hill, then the men can spring forward and knock them back down the slope with clubs and halberd butts.

175 men ought to be able to cover the entire perimeter, so I think this works.

We should probably burn down the town once we've captured the inhabitants. We were ordered to make it not exist.

I'm not sure...we should definitely take a look around first, make sure nothing of value is within (Rule #1, folks!), then maybe burn it down.

Yes, look around for anything important first, but dont make it look like we are looting the place.

I don't know. For some reason, people were a bit put off by the idea of slaughtering a village full of defenseless women and children.

Well we can give them enough warning for the women and children to escape, because its their only choice other then death or slavery.
