Screw him, we have orders from the Duke, so if he don't like it we can give him a job shoveling shit.  Or we could have him be the new ruler of pigsden once we take out the bandit king.

Can I get some concrete reasons from you guys as to why you want to leave Feroshire for Curbiston? I mean, there is no 'infrastructure' for ruling there, at most it will be useful as a garrison.

P.S. There is also a very good reason to stay with Feroshire: prestige. What happens when some noble visitor arrives and asks us if this is all our doing? If we live in Curbiston we have to say that we got it after the plague. Sounds kinda stupid and like we were just handed it. If we stay with Feroshire, we can say 'oh, I just managed to build all of this from practically nothing.' It sounds better.

Curbiston is closer to the enemy, which means faster reaction times to raids and movements. We don't have iPhones or even telegraphs in this era, and Feroshire is three days further upstream. Logistically, it's simply better to be in Curbiston.

Curbiston is worth way more prestige than Feroshire. If we stay there, we will always remain the Farmer's Count. Good for reputation with the pettyfolk, but don't expect to be taken serious by anyone of standing. If we take over Curbiston, we will be seen, in time, as the rightful heir of the Foles. Medieval people respected tradition, not personal ambition/success. Primarly because the feudal system is based on the former, while the latter is it's greatest danger.

Other than that, Curbiston is/was a major city. The adjoining lands are larger, it's got a strategic location, better port infrastructure, improved Castle,Citadel and quite a lot of other stuf. It's got it's own proper river chain, but most importantly it's the ancient seat of the Count.

Also, new challenge and the like.

Shift of power seats happens. If we successfully turn Feroshire into a bigger, better city than Curbiston was, that will be worth way more prestige than simply rebuilding Curbiston. Because Curbiston will remain Curbiston, regardless of what we do.
The death of the old lineage after a suspicious death, a succession war AND a plague is a unique opportunity. Switching the county seat to Feroshire will give our lineage more legitimity in the long run. Ruling over something we built from the bottom up is prestigious. Inheriting the city from another dynasty... Is just normal, I guess.

This is the main point.

At the current situation, even when we are named a count, Cubishton legally still belonged to the Foles, and a potential claimant to their line would be disastrous. Put the matter of moving the seat aside; the only way we can be sure of our current status and prestige is to dissuade any Foles claimant from an inheritance grab and thus a long and protracted war, and the best way is of course make Cubishton unmanageable except by us.

That means we should concentrate our efforts on Cubishton, and moving there at least temporaily makes perfect sense.

(Might be a little late to say Thank God it's back, but Thank God it's back!)

Staying in Curbiston until this is dealt with is smart, but I think Feroshire is the best choice for the county seat afterwards. Besides the prestige effects of the county seat being something we built ourselves, I feel that it seems right to have a different county seat for a different dynasty.

Exactly. And this is why we advocate against taking it as our capital. The last days of the Foles have been disastrous, to say the least.

Exactly. And this is why we advocate against taking it as our capital. The last days of the Foles have been disastrous, to say the least.
It's tradition and heritage that are respected, not recent events. Having build something up ourselves will net us little else but jealousy. Curbiston carries prestige.

Besides, it's interesting from a gameplay perspective too. There were rather few ideas about what to do with our village lately.

True. We've improved so much that improving it more seems silly, because we've got every single cool idea packed into it already, and more just crosses a threshold of disbelief.  Nevertheless, let's talk about the war.

We have to make this sales pitch to the Bandit King in person, you know. We have one month to get him on our side, drive off the raiders near Torchester, and do something about the King's situation. We do not have time to ping-pong representatives and go-betweens slowly between us. We have to make the contact in person now.

We take a small fast force, well-armed enough to breakthrough a trap, and we meet him in the next few days. This negotiation requires our personal finesse and face-to-face reassurances. Seal the deal now, and turn south with him.
