Amphibian Man Quest! >:|

My hero has finally become a ridiculously renowned fellow! I've accepted my first quest from a "deity" in a human temple in the capital city. The quest is to hunt down Damol Wallowedtrusted, an amphibian man who is running a horrible crime syndicate. I was informed that he was hiding out in a sewer. I ran all across the city like a madman diving into every single sewer entrance I could find. The problem is...I've searched every sewer and I've found NOTHING! On top of that when I enter the Temple of Strategy (a temple in the city) it also sets off my quest marker with *** but nothing is there. I cannot find this thing anywhere!!

Tips or ideas would be overly appreciated!

Check your quest log, you might've found him dead already and completed the quest. I think I've found my target dead at the bottom of the sewer at least once.

I have personally NEVER been able to complete any quest involving the sewers. Just can't find the quest targets, and any historical figures I do find are unreachable unless I happened to be a vampire and lucky enough to be able to find a way to navigate to them. I have never, ever encountered a living (or undead) soul in the unflooded sections of the sewers. Skeletons, sure, but they're never my quest target. I should be so lucky to be able to cross one of these damn un-finishable quests off my to-do list for a change!

The sewers are aesthetically awesome, and I love them, but they're hellishly awful for adventuring. Too many parts of them are flooded, or unreachable because of flooded sections, or unreachable because of no Sewer Access stairs actually being generated in the sodding city.
Your amphibian man is probably hiding in one of those places. He's a very smart amphibian man.

There exist a trick that may help you.

Many of the Quest objectives are found lurking where the sewers join the river. You can find them swimming in the river until
you find a sewer entrance, then quickly going in and out to atract them out.

If the sewers join the river, that would work. Sadly, random generation is random.

90% of the time your "sewer" quest targets are where the river meets the sewer.  I spent ages searching sewers only to realize that they were at the base.  Hope you took some swimming lessons....

I've had a few levels in swimming and was able to swim between storm drains so I wouldn't drown. The hard part is if you bump into some nasties before you reach the next storm drain.

If you play masterwork then there can be sea monsters, sea dragons and frost giants where the sewer meets the river. Needless to say most adventurers stand little chance against these underwater.

You could use the dfhack 'reveal' command to help you find your target. If he turns out to be in an unreachable/underwater part of the sewer, you could use dfhack's 'tiletypes' to create an entrance.

The only time i really bothered to smoke out a sewer quest target was with a vampire, and of course the olm woman and her posse were in a flooded section of the sewers, on the other side of the running water from the only entrance i could find. Oh, did i mention the running water was a _brook_? Really no way to access that part without being amphibian yourself.

In a sufficiently large world with the right parameters, there should be no lack of other quest targets, though, so with anyone who needs to breathe i'll just keep ignoring sewer quests.
