Afterwards, we should take his identity and continue living his life as a facade. And maybe if we feel brave, we can summon another demon to both help cause destruction and take the blame for our actions. We would want a chaos, rage, or sloth demon if we do that. But this is long-term! Let's try to continue convincing him we're human. Don't go too over the top!

I agree with continuing to fake being a human. Cry and act confused and such.

Oh, and OP did you get the idea somewhat from The Bartimaeus Series? The summoning and types of daemons seem slightly similar...

Actually, my original idea was to actually try to scare him into our range of power, bu then realized that the OP never stated it worked like that. That was an incredible book series though, but I didn't much care for the ending. A bit anti-climactic, in my opinion.

Yeah, keep it subtle.
Although I'm a bit wary of the longer-term goal. It gave me an idea of a wizard who has lived for centuries, but is actually a succession of beings brought in who killed and replaced the imitator.

I don't mean to live life as a mortal, but to just appear to be him so we can get around and buy magical artifacts without being questioned. Also, maybe find some way of recreating a body without causing notice so that the sudden disappearance of so-and-so's wife won't be called into question?

I'm all for killing him, but let's make him do a bit of stuff for us first.  I continue with the crying plan, but should he release us we make him do a bunch of shit for us before killing him.  After all, we are the demon of trickery.  I assume at some point our powers are linked to the use of this tactic.  Therefore, trick him as much as possible, then kill him when we are no longer able to get anything out of him.  But patience is a virtue at this time.  Besides, we still have to gauge his gullibility.

He hasn't bound us yet, because he doesn't know we're a demon.

Even if this guy is an idiot, when summoning a trickster demon, I imagine you would want to bind ANYTHING that comes out first, and ask questions later.

Spoiler: OOC (click to show/hide)

You appear to squint back from the boy, your face a mask of horror. Who... how did I... what... You close your eyes shortly, shake your head. What is going on?. And, being confused of course. After all, you poor mortal being were just rescued from hell itself. Or something like that. The quick step-back-and-cower-move, coupled with your panicked eye movement, allows you to survey the entire pentagram again. It is carefully painted, twice or even thrice, and the runes look like directly out of that book over there. One to summon you, one to bind you, one to force you following one order, one to stop you from directly harming the caster, and one to force you to return once dismissed. Except... the Dismissal rune appears to be painted sloppy. To be exact, it looks like he flinched when painting it the second or third time. That rune now is... powerless. That will be useful.
The boy, by the way, does not fall for your act, or at least looks like that. Instead, he seems to have gotten his composure back from that sudden outburst of muttering, and now stands completely still, and a bit hunched. My master must see me as I really am. Competent, intelligent, ready for advancement. He gulps, and wipes his brow with one of his sleeves. The right one. Sleeve, that is; it is so big he could use it as a towel. You will do so. He seems so... eager.

Whole OOC post:

Wow, thank you all for your participation; I seem to have struck a nerve or something like that ;-)

By the way, I've begun with this post to outline the apprentice's speeches with comic sans, in case you'll need an incentive to do him harm. (no, you surely do not need an incentive for that.) Actually, I think it to be an amusing contrast to see world domination or revenge plans in comic sans.

Now, for some questions/answers:
He didn't bind us properly. Kill him and begin to take note of our surroundings.
I hope to have answered it better with the post above. Basically, as I imagine it, all of that stuff is done during the summoning. To summon a demon you make a pentagram, and summon him. The pentagram contains, properly drawn, runes to summon the demon (together with the incantations), bind him, make him not hurt you directly, make him do your bidding, and to get rid of him. Like a fire and forget uhm... demon. Completely save if you word your task right, are experienced and don't make any mistakes.

I like to imagine we have no true form since we shapeshift so much. I dunno, it just feels right.
I agree with that. As a demon of trickery, you have no 'true' form, instead you can jump around as much as you'd like. Of course, if you'll like and describe it to me, I can do some kind of default form you'll take when no other is specified, and it isn't too dumb. For example, you could take the form of a yellow elephant (please don't take the form of a yellow elephant), and if you go to town I'll use a human form.

Oh, and OP did you get the idea somewhat from The Bartimaeus Series? The summoning and types of daemons seem slightly similar...
(First book in that series: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Amulet_of_Samarkand)
Not directly, but partly. The types of demons I just pulled out of my sleeve (with some research a.k.a. clicking on links on the internet and a bit of 'That sounds logical'), and for the summoning I afterwards very much noticed that it was quite similar. Well, why not...
The main idea actually was from the 'Demonhood' forum game I read a couple of months ago, and which I plagiarized at least for the demon idea.
Your powers are linked to several factors. Tricking mortals definitely is one of the possibilities. Getting mortals to do your bidding, another. Getting mortals to worship you might be another. Maybe senseless killing could be one, maybe eating yellow elephants. You're new to this world, you don't know that well, yet. Just like you don't yet have access to your powers, as they are blocked by the pentagram. Once you're outside of it, you'll get them, though only in a weak form for now. They'll grow as you grow.

Drop the foolery, he knows he's summoned us. Us because a demon is always legion. So we have to do him one bidding. He's very vague. Maybe include him in the "unfortunate" accident he so wishes to bestow upon his master.

Even if this guy is an idiot, when summoning a trickster demon, I imagine you would want to bind ANYTHING that comes out first, and ask questions later.
Again, you're thinking this through. That's not something an apprentice who summons difficult-to-control demons while the master's away does.

Drop the foolery, he knows he's summoned us. Us because a demon is always legion. So we have to do him one bidding. He's very vague. Maybe include him in the "unfortunate" accident he so wishes to bestow upon his master.
No, he wants to look like he's ready to advance.
Kill him, take his form, and be a better mage than he was.
