So, without the game even starting we're asked to input a name for our character. Unfortunately Urist McAnimaltrainer doesn't fit, so the game will have to be on a first name basis with Dr. McAnimaltrainer.
The game doesn't start then, either, it shows us some sepia-tone slides of
gory probably illegal championship monster battles and tells us how certain people can
enslave innocent animals to fight other animals against their will befriend monsters and work together to win the tournament.
After that we get transported to a first-person view inside a crate on some dock. It is assumed that we are stowing away in this crate to
escape the cops after committing several felonies go see the monster competition
Then we get a nice view of the jalopy of an airship we're stowing away on.
It's not long before we are finally carried onto the ship and can leave our box, and get the first glimpse of our
fugitive felon hero.
World record for most crimes committed by age 12 belongs to this boy.The first thing we do? Attempt to steal from the passengers who actually paid to go on this flight, of course!
Unfortunately, the chests are locked and everywhere else on the ship has passengers, so we're forced to hide in our box once more.
It's not long before some punk rocker from the 80s and her demon-spawn of a pet come into the room.
The demon spawn bee-lines for our crate and begins attacking it.
And if you weren't convinced it was demon spawn, just look at its face in this image.
Not long after, Miss Punk Rocker opens the crate, and a meeting is held so the entire crew can express their disappointment in us while we're forced into indentured servitude.
Our first mission? Say hello to everyone on the ship, of course.
They have to ease us into the manual labor. The first crew member we talk to is Melonie, a girl who dresses ridiculously and has a ridiculously over-exaggerated cockney accent to match.
The next person we meet is Miss Punk Rocker, who's name is actually Lily. Turns out she is an
animal slaver "Monster Scout"
Next up is old man Eugene who decides to show us the "high tech" monster pen on the ship the instant we say hello.
After that we talk to Archie, a man/boy who appears to be fascinated by archaeology. Why he is going to a monster fighting tournament is beyond me.
Then we meet Rory, who is very obviously about to punch us. I think we need to call CPS.
Afterwards, we report back to the captain, Rex Mayday, who tells us we need to do something else next.
And not a moment after
So, of course, the captain tells us to go check out what's up with Miss Punk Rocker. Just imagine the screen violently shaking during these next few slides.
And as what is presumably an Earthquake is happening, Eugene remains still and calm.
So we report back to Cpt. Mayday and tell him that all hell is breaking loose, an Earthquake is occuring on an airship and Miss Punk Rocker's demon-spawn is likely to blame. He tells us to report to the engine room, where Rory is.
Rory tells us to piss off. Then the following happens.
After that he seems pretty concerned. He tells us to report back to the captain.
For some reason, the captain interprets our silent-protagonist communication as saying Rory told us to abandon ship, although that is not even slightly the case, Rory never said anything about abandoning ship.
And then the ship goes down...
