You begin stalking through the forest, and see a squirrel. You chase after it, but it runs up a tree. Then get annoyed and begin ruthlessly attacking the poor defenseless tree. It's now very scratched up.

You start climbing the tree. It takes you some time, but you reach a sturdy branch and sit down. The squirrel is nowhere to be seen.

The remains of what? You start looking around, and see some vultures around a cut off leg. It looks a lot like the leg of the elf you maimed.

You walk over to the leg, scaring the vultures away, and eat it. You then start walking along the road. Because that is the most likely path for them to have taken.
