Cool games on niche consoles
« on: December 26, 2012, 09:24:25 pm »

So I've played Adventure on the 2600. I've played this stupid game to death, and it got me thinking: what kind of cool games are there on other niche consoles? Things you don't really see anymore, like the 3DO or the Sega Master System. Are there more neat games that we lost to the passage of time?

I doubt anyone is gonna agree with me. But Fantasy Zone - The Maze for the Sega Master System is a really overlooked and fun game. At least I think so. Since it's kinda like a weird little fantasy zone themed pac man with shmupness and more interesting level design. Though last I heard most people thought it was shit.

I'm also a fan of the Master System version of Alien Syndrome. Much better than the other ports somehow.

Adventure Game (made on the Net Yaroze) will always have a special place in my heart.  It really was quite terrible, but in all the right ways.

Not really a niche console but Comix Zone on Mega Drive/Genesis isn't too well known, but it's a great little game and an amazing sound-track (and awesome rock remake versions by Calvin Magnus as well as official songs from composer Howard Drossin)

I wouldn't qualify the 2600 as a niche console...

There was one shoot-em-up for the Virtual Boy that I had a lot of fun playing.

Tunnels of Doom for the TI-99/4a

1-4 party roguelike in 1983.

There comes a time when you must take off the soft, furry slippers of a boy and put on the shoes of a man.
Unless of course they don't fit properly and your feet blister up like bubble wrap.
Oh ho ho, but don't try to return the shoes, because they won't take them back once you've worn them.
Especially if that fat pig Tony is at the desk.

Now that is rather interesting. I always love older roguelikes :D
