71a. Additionally, replace "light skinned/dark skinned" with "attractive/ugly" respectively.

Waitta second -- did you just disrespect D&D (intentionally) there?
Good job!

I always though detect ugly was a stupid spell.

I diss D&D all the time actually.

It's not just D&D.
Fantasy in general tends to give the protagonists' and other sympathetic races light skin, reserving the darker skin colors for orcs, goblins, underground nasties, etc.
One of these days, I'm going to write a story where everyone is dark-skinned except the albino evil people from underground. It wouldn't make sense to make a big deal about the skin color, of course, since everyone's is dark, but it would be an interesting reversal of typical trends.

Perfectly pale skin is often evil, too, though. And there's a few series/works where the main characters are dark-skinned, like Earthsea (not to discourage you or anything).

I was talking about the ugly part.

unicorn good.

dragons that look shiny and pretty good.

centaurs (for crying out loud -- the bloodthirsty human eaters in greek mythology) neutral if I recall

dragon that looks shiny and pretty -- good
one that looks like it's got mottled skin and crazy horns going everywhere --evil.

at least color-wise the white dragons are evil.

Although you could say albino-ism is kinda evil tending -- see princess bride. (ninja'd)

Emphasis on "few."

True enough about albinism; also note that the things about pretty==good aren't just D&D either. Unicorns. Freaking unicorns. They are horses with big horns that are attracted to young women. They didn't start pure and innocent, you know...

Might have something to do with the fact that white is the color of death/mourning/whatever in some asiatic countries. (AFAIK that is)

Geez, do we need an OOC thread for EVERY thread in this subforum?

78a. Don't link subthreads. A player who can't look for them is too lazy to be worthy to participate in your game.

A lot of western mythology comes from Anglo-Saxon and Western European culture. Back then, a lot of enemy and rival factions were pale-skinned (The various groups from present day Scotland & Ireland, plus the northern countries such as Sweden and Iceland who would often invade England) or darker skinned (anywhere from the African civilizations in the south to the Ottomen, Turkish and various Middle-Eastern groups to the west), so it makes sense from a historical standpoint.

But we don't need another RP about "Dark-skinned gypsy merchant thieving sand people".

Or possibly the white comes from snow during winter, which would be pretty deadly back then. And the darkness might just be night, when enemies would raid towns as such.
