Has there ever been a DF Con?
« on: December 24, 2012, 10:39:06 am »

Has there ever been a meetup or Con for DF fans? It strikes me that there are alot of interesting and smart people in this community. Looks like there are alot of techies too.
Does Tarn or his brother ever meet fans? He strikes me as a pretty interesting guy to meet. I read the New York Times article on him. Don't know whether he would find it fun to hang out with fans or whether some people here might come off as creepy. He works incredibly hard for someone who makes less than an entry level programmer at a regular company.

There aren't enough fans to call it a con, but there were a few meetups in the past. The last one was in July 2011. Toady and ThreeToe were there, too.

I wonder if the game has become odd.

That would be pretty fun, although the FBI may label us as a cult and siege the meetup.

There's occasionally meetups for a certain area scheduled down in General Discussion, but they aren't so much "fly out to a con" as much as "if you can drive here, come see us."

I don't think they have the authority to do that. The Freedom of Assembly under the 1st Amendment assures us the right of gathering otherwise. Or can they?!

I can't quote for squat, but this is very true. Credit to PTTG?? for this insightful comment.

Especially considering some or most of us play LCS as well.

It was pretty neat expedition we had.  On the way up the mountainside, the tour guide found out we were a group for a video game and made a joke about the graphics (asking if they were realistic) and someone told him that it wasn't that sort of game.  Also some friend of a player who showed up was wearing Vibram shoes.
