Can't multigrasp
« on: December 23, 2012, 10:41:39 pm »

I grabbed a bunch of gear from a keep in a fortress before heading off to kill a particularly evil night creature. I'm fond of 2h swords, so I picked one up, but my character insists on only using it with his left hand. There is nothing in my right hand. It's the only thing I'm holding, but I won't multigrasp it, which is odd because I've been able to multigrasp before. Is this a bug? What can I do so I don't get a huge penalty for swinging around a massive weapon with one hand?

Check your health, your ability to grasp with your right hand may be impaired.

Do you actually get a penalty in Adventure mode for swinging a two-handed weapon in both hands? I know there's a penalty for having multiple items in your weapon hand, but I've never had a problem killing the crap out of goblins with one-handed claymores.

Is your character large enough to use one hand?

I have no injuries or any history of injuries. I'm average-sized for a human

I guess this could be an upside? Advantage of having a shield plus the power of a 2h sword?

Maybe it's just a display bug, and I'm actually multigrasping but it says I'm not

I'd put it in your backpack and then take it back out again, just to make sure.

For some reason I always spawn with a 2h sword and a shield. Is it possible for a human to wield a two handed sword with one hand?

Yes, Humans can wield a Two-Handed sword in one hand very easily. In real life, A Hand-and-a-Half-sword were used both one handed and two handed. However, you will take a slight attack penalty roll, making it slightly less effective... But still more effective than a Longsword.

The accuracy penalty can be surpassed by overwhelming amounts of skill levels, whilst weapon prowess isn't affected by your skills. (AFAIK anyways.)
[/Explanation]

Though admittedly, it's not like guaranteed headshots even at Difficult Strike levels isn't a huge boost in weapon prowess. :v
Though by the time you're there, it doesn't matter if you're using a one-hander or fifty shields and seven weapons in one hand, you'll still hit.

tl;dr There's no point not using bigger weapons, unless you absolutely need a smaller weapon of a better material. (Say, for getting through pesky armor.)

Just thinking, is a two-handed sword really all that much better that a longsword?
I'm sure it can chop off bigger limbs, but, really, most of our opponents are average humanoids.
Unless you're hunting big stuff, a big sword seems pointless.

I always felt not multi-grasping large weapons reduced the damage potential. Is that something I'm imagining, then?

Well technically you'd be right on that, as long as you aren't Legendary+HolyCow in using swords, then the big accuracy penalty results in exactly that.
Simply because you'd miss like you're getting paid for it.
