Fifty dollars and nothing to do.
« on: December 22, 2012, 02:46:17 pm »

Just a day ago, I got a letter addressed to me. At first I thought it was an advertisement or some shit because rarely if ever do I get any actual mail. Nevertheless, after a few frustrating moments of struggling with the sticker and tape holding the letter shut I just ripped it open haphazardly. Inside, I found a Christmas card. Opening it, below my name and the pre-printed text all cards come with, was cursive handwriting displaying:
"See, if you believe, things really can come true!
Merry Christmas,
Santa"

There was also $50.

There was no return address and I don't recognize the handwriting.

Welp, now I have $50 and I'm still trying to decide what to do with it. I might get a graphics card to replace the piece of horse crap that my obviously mentally challenged computer somehow mistakes for a graphics card, but I doubt I can finally run Grand Theft Auto IV and Assassin's Creed II without game-ruining lag for $50 or lower. Any ideas on what to spend it on?

You can donate the money to charity or spend it on a gift for someone.

I would probably buy beer for all of my friends if I got lucky like that.

Spend it. Quickly. There might be Anthrax on it.

There's probably trace amounts of cocaine on it too.

Invest. Really, do whatever the hell you want. It's Christmas, indulge a little.

Invest in cocaine If you like to play games, and you've got a crappy graphics card, I'd say it'd be sound to invest in a new one.

Go to charity shops.  Buy a rucksack, sleeping bag, flask (fill it with hot soup), spoon, gloves, hat, fleece/jumper/hoodie and socks.  Go and give it all to a homeless person.  Spend the rest on beer.  You get to keep the beer.

Pfft, what are you a pansy? Who gives away their money? You have fifty dollars, go out to dinner or something and enjoy yourself or something.

Take the Charlie Sheen approach: Hookers and blow! Well, hookers OR blow, because you've only got $50.

That said, is this an improvement on what you've got?

If there's nothing really urgent that you feel you really REALLY want, why blow the money on stuff you only half want?  Hang onto the cash - you'll come across something shiny soon enough.  Or if the graphics card is really a high priority, save up the additional money you need to get the right one...

Maybe I'm a little old-fashioned...

but I'd spend a personal gift from Santa on something more personal and memorable than a PC component.  A little indulgence that I wanted repeatedly but couldn't quite justify; hookers and blow would be but one option :)

Start saving for a graphics card- $50 dollars is a nice boost for that.

And stay away from Intel. Eugh.
