GOD DAMM IT NOVEL STOP MAKING TOPICS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That is all.

This, goddamit i see a new topic by you almost everyday, and most of your first posts are really not very well expanded, like you are trying to bump your thread count.

And what if he's just being laconic? I don't see what's wrong with having discussions on a discussion board >_>

Yes, I'm being laconic. Secondly, the point is to garner others opinions and spark off discussion more then it is to give a labyrinthine first post, and when i do do that those such as Starver seem to find it more difficult to make a reply. I don't see why i should care about thread count, to be honest. As i see it, the respected figures on this board, of which I'm sure you're aware, are there because of what they say, not how much they write. I'm trying to be an instigator with posts like these, and in threads where explanation is necessary i try to give it. I do not see this as offensive. It will both help me understand their work better and prevent me from blindly singing praises.

Generally, when we want to rapidly switch topics of discussion, the accepted method has been to create a single discussion thread and change the topic periodically.

Internet politeness really.

Making a lot of topics generally makes you look like someone who is yelling constantly and these quality of topics makes it seem that you spit while you talk.

So you are yelling and getting everyone wet with your spittle. Hense why people are complaining.

Would you like someone yelling and spitting on you?

Fair point, but then I'd be switching it back and forth incessantly, as I'd want to be reading about several different things at once for variety. Either that or making a everything on everything thread, and at that point you might as well make your own forum.

I don't know... I find this thread kinda offensive...

And by kinda I mean outright offensive.

In that it is about coloring reading with the authors behind them. In that we SHOULD be coloring our oppinions of books.

I mean does Romeo and Juliet mean anything differently when you know that Shakespeare was a horrible horrible racist?

Does a Rose cared for any other gardener smell as sweet?

The problem here though is that HP Lovecraft's racism did end up in some of his work. Take his short story "The Horror at Red Hook", for example.

I'm going to back it up with a quote from the wikipedia article which put it more succinctly than I could:

Quote
Lovecraft spelled out his inspiration for "The Horror at Red Hook" in a letter written to fellow writer Clark Ashton Smith:

The idea that black magic exists in secret today, or that hellish antique rites still exist in obscurity, is one that I have used and shall use again. When you see my new tale "The Horror at Red Hook", you will see what use I make of the idea in connexion with the gangs of young loafers & herds of evil-looking foreigners that one sees everywhere in New York.

Lovecraft had moved to New York to marry Sonia Greene a year earlier, in 1924; his initial infatuation with New York soon soured (an experience fictionalized in his short story "He"), in large part due to Lovecraft's xenophobic attitudes. "Whenever we found ourselves in the racially mixed crowds which characterize New York, Howard would become livid with rage," Greene later wrote. "He seemed almost to lose his mind."

Much of the magical background to the story was lifted from the articles on "Magic" and "Demonology" in the 9th edition of the Encyclopaedia Britannica. The use of the Yezidi as devil-worshipping villains seems to have been inspired by E. Hoffmann Price's "The Stranger from Kurdistan".

But does it matter with the book itself?

Once again Shakespeare's intense racism and sexism got into his plays. As well his plays are pandering and include lowest common denominator content.

The issue Naxza isn't about the books themselves it is about whether or not the view of the author SHOULD affect our view of the book.

Which my answer is no. Books should stand on their own and the author while of interest is a non-factor when it comes to the content of a book.

The fact that Orwell murdered hundreds of people shouldn't transform 1982 into a book about paradise. Should the fact that Edgar Ellen Poe was a blind autistic do anything to his poems?

We are of the same oppinion when it comes to how a book is read.

May I ask how Orwell murdered hundreds of people?

Orwell put them in cages full of rabid animals that mauled them to death.

While laughing.

Potentially. In the Spanish civil war.

The rats. The horror.

Indeed, although he was a terrible shot with a rifle and only once in his novel does he allude to possibly killing someone. That said, I'm quite confused internally about how I feel about people who go and shoot others for a cause. I don't think I like Hemingway for that reason.

Still does Orwell's hundreds of mauling murders that he did joyously affect 1984?

SHOULD this be something we should know before reading the book?

In World War I Hemingway was an ambulance driver. For two months. Then he got blown the fuck up.

He was a solider in World War II, but whether he actually killed anyone is ambiguous. Even if he did, he was fighting, you know, the Nazis.

Anyway, regardless, Hemingway wasn't exactly a fan of war. His books make it very clear that he saw it as an unglamorous waste of life. In a way, he even portrayed war as unmanly, which is very authoritative coming from someone like Hemingway. He practically invented the modern conception of manliness.

Mind you he did support the forced Euthenasia of the old to decrease the burden on society

>_<

Also I said Murder, I never said anything about him doing it in a war. His basement was said to rot of human flesh.
