@Antsan: I'd add to that the apathetic folks. They're distinct from the misanthropes in that they're not necessarily pessimistic, but still believe that they have no influence whatsoever.

Arguably he's already a progressive, just one in the style of an enlightened Kaiser.
I'm going to do the smart thing here and disengage. This isn't a hill I paticularly care to die on.

yeah, you're right.
And I also forgot the people who think Cartman was supposed to be an identification figure.

Meh... I don't think any such broad type categories can be called a defining feature of any generation.  The attitudes you're describing are constants.

Same song and dance has been going on for a long time now, lyrics may change but tunes always the same :)

On a related note, there's Lord Timothy Dexter with his 1801 autobiography, A Pickle For The Knowing Ones. A different perspective on the times of old, so to speak.

Quote from: Item #1, 1816 Times London
The indecent foreign dance called the Waltz was introduced ... at the English Court on Friday last ... It is quite sufficient to cast one's eyes on the voluptuous intertwining of the limbs, and close compressure of the bodies ... to see that it is far indeed removed from the modest reserve which has hitherto been considered distinctive of English females...[Now that it is] forced on the respectable classes of society by the evil example of their superiors, we feel it a duty to warn every parent against exposing his daughter to so fatal a contagion.
Absolutely glorious.

The kitchenette mold free, you move on to the pantry. it's nasty in there. The bacon is grazing on the lettuce. The ham is having an illicit affair with the prime rib, The potatoes see all, know all. A rat in boxer shorts smoking a foul smelling cigar is banging on a cabinet shouting about rent money.

Hey now, credit where it's due -- a good waltz is almost a tango, and a good tango can be about as close to sex on the dance floor as you can get without actively starting to grind. Critters back then knew what was up. It seems silly to us nowadays, but nowadays most folks probably wouldn't know a waltz if it waltzed up to them and started actively molesting them.

21 year old millennial. I love feeling purposely screwed and then being told to get over it and screw the next generation.
