Berserk or Manic-Depressive?
« on: January 08, 2008, 05:56:00 am »

My expert marksdwarf hunter stopped using her crossbow either for hunting or combat.
When I activate her she follows orders, except she doesn't arm herself, and when I take her off-duty she goes to her room.  If I deactivate her she resumes hunting bare-handed.
In her "thoughts and preferences" page she's ecstatic, but at the very bottom appears the suspicious phrase, "She doesn't really care about anything anymore."
Is that why she won't use a crossbow?  Is she manic-depressive, berserk, or just bugged?

I just watched her hunt.  She bum-rushed a marmot -- faster than I thought a dwarf could run -- and beat it down with her bare hands, then hauled the corpse back to the butcher.  She's one to stay out of the way of.

I don't know what the problem is, but I know what the problem isn't.

"She doesn't really care about anything anymore." is a phrase dwarves get when they have been around death. It means that seeing others die doesn't upset them, and they get that phrase by butchering animals or hunting them in the first place. Tis expected, and not a bad trait to have either.

Well, game-wise.

Are you sure she has ammo?

She carries around an empty quiver, but I have a vast stockpile of ammo should she ever decide to use it.

This might be obvious, but have you checked her weapon preferences? Sounds suspicious that she does fight unarmed instead...

Also, do you have any crossbows? And if you have, are they forbidden?

Metal bolts, or just wooden or bone bolts?
If the latter, I think they only use them for training.

Well they're acting like she won't even pick up the cross bow to begin with. Does the dwarf have any masterpieces in its hands already? It might be unwilling to put down a masterpiece to pick up its cross bow.

Can she equie any other weapon? Can she pick up anything at all? (Hauling, for instance.)

Hmm...I've never been a big fan of CCGs - I mean, I did and still do collect Pokemon cards, but I never got heavily into the battling and trading thing.

By definition that makes you a fan since you still buy them.

No injuries stopping her holding things either?

She can haul animal corpses without difficulty.  She's also uninjured.
