Lake + winter

Okey so my lake dosent freeze, even tho ponds are solid ice. If I dig of from the lake shore that water freezes but not the lake, bug or does it take really long time to lake to freeze/it dosent freeze?

Water freezing depends on the area's temperature, not the season. Sometimes when winter starts it's still not cold enough for water to freeze, and you have to wait a while longer for the temperature to drop to its coldest. In addition, not all water freezes at the same time; lakes seem to resist cold better than ponds.

Lakes take much longer to freeze than rivers or ponds ect.

I could go into why, but it would be a very long explanation of water temps, so I wont.
