What happens other than being attacked by wolves?
« on: December 20, 2012, 05:13:40 pm »

Normally I just go around Adventure Mode and all of a sudden I'm chased by wolves, or when I go to night I get attacked by bogeymen, it is all getting repetitive, where is the fun in such a linear game?

The fun is when you learn to fend off/avoid/slaughter those ambushes.  Try sneaking around more and taking companions with you, or playing with higher starting stats.  Do local quests instead of wandering.  The game simply thrusts you out into the world, rather like how some games do.  It doesn't level places or creatures to you. Amummy is always a mummy, no matter when you run into it, and a wolf always a wolf.

No creature's stat's level with yours.  Those who can learn will learn, however.  If worldgen is 500 years you can expect on average more skilled opponents than if only 300, for example.

Well for one thing, development happens. The game is currently in the Alpha stage of development; not all features are implemented, and those that are implemented recieve attention occasionally to address old issues. When the next version is released, the world will be much more active, with creatures and groups of people (even armies) moving around. You will be able to intercept them through tracking, and will be able to proactively avoid detection yourself as you travel, meaning you won't necessarily get ambushed constantly.

Of course there aren't yet any quests which don't involve killing something or other, but that will eventually change.

Much like Fortress mode or... You know what? I'm even going to bring up the comparison of writing - do something different. Impose a restriction on yourself, create a narrative, do something out of the box. Eventually it starts to write itself.

Yes.  Plain and simple.

This isn't a game to be enjoyed by someone with hindered imaginative ability or limited creativity/initiative.

Agree, plus that's about the LAST thing *I* want to see from this kind of game - author spending valuable development time on useless graphics.

Mods is where more fun is. Wolves are to frequent, play with new creatures, and with mods you get spells, crafting and companion orders.

Dwarf Fortress is probably the best unfinished game up to date.

(Space Station 13 is good but the official version is technically finished)

Masterwork also make adventurer better.
You can make stuff, although you'll need to be strict enough to resist the urge to randomly spawn wood every time.

Ah yeah, it's a leftover of my old Genesis included in masterwork where you could pull wood out of thin air. Did Meph manage to add ability to order companions and equip them too?

I got a question now, I have a quest to kill someone in a dungeon and I have went to where the compass specified, it says that I'm in the dungeon but I don't see anything but grass and land, where is the dungeon?
