Video game music
« on: December 20, 2012, 04:13:23 pm »

Hello again guys

I used to regularly compose music for all sorts of media and now it just seems all I do is my own songs, whilst that's by no means bad, I want to get back into writing music for video games.

I was just wondering if you guys know any good resources around for this sort of thing or have any experience/useful things to know?

Eventually I plan to do this full-time but I realise that's a long long long long long way away

Anyway...

my most recent stuff is at

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/2872916/Last%20weeks%20work.mp3

And the rest is at my site in the signature

BUMP: Changed the topic title to something more relevant/spell checked etc...

Well, I just spent the morning looking through every crevice of my harddrive to find alllllll my previous work, so I've compiled it into an mp3 and edited the previous post :D

Well, I'm afraid I'm not a video game developer, but I listened to your portfolio anyways and I like it a lot!
I'd love to hear more of this.

I'm a LPer of games (also kindof game dev, though it isn't ready for music yet) and it'd be awesome if you could just compose/upload some generic music for use in videos (I'll put any kind of credits, eg link and name, in the description).

Some general directions for different songs:

Calm/soothing rhythmic music for timelapse.
Energetic/violent music for combat.
Sombre music for sad plot stuffs, eg "my village has been burnt down by bandits" or "so and so just died".
Happy/catchy music for intros/outros.

You'll find that a lot of video makers would happily use your music if they just have to link you in the video description (look at how much Kevin MacLeod's stuff gets used).

Hey Alfie thanks for the tip!

Any ideas that don't make the final cut for any games will be put out for public domain use. There aren't any at the moment but as soon as there are I will notify this thread probably...

Feel free to keep upto date with my happenings on my new shiny blog that I've just made (It's in my signature)
