Steam Encore Sale 2012
« on: December 20, 2012, 01:28:50 pm »

Steam Holiday Sale Time - It's that time of year again!

Welcome kids, to another money-sink for your holiday wallet. The sale lasts from December 20th to January 5th and will no doubt include many things you want at ridiculously low prices. This thread is designed for use about this specific sale and discussion thereof: if you have any general steam comments or anything else please use the other Steam Sales thread.

The sale is now officially over, but Steam has launched the encore sale, containing many of the popular sales for the weekend. Discuss. Has this made up for the slightly poor daily deals?

Disappointing we're not seeing any kind of events like last year Christmas sale. Perfect example of a select few ruining it for everyone.  :(

No event to go with it yet, though there is the now traditional "achievement" badge.

Spoiler: badge requirements (click to show/hide)

Never really saw the point in badges myself, it's just pointless e-wanking. Plus those particular "achievements" to unlock the badge are dreadfully boring.
I've got a massive backlog and I'm pretty content with my collection at the moment. I doubt there will be much I'll pick up in this sale.

It's probably a good thing my computer is still hosed. Less incentive to buy shiny things. Although I'm ticked I missed the 75% discount on CKII DLCs.

Few games on daily deal watch definitely, only bought one game thus far, Grand Ages Rome: Gold (mainly due to being quite impressed by Imperium Romanum)

Really tempted by Wargame:EE but might skip it since although it looks fun it just doesn't look like it has much it can offer me.

I'm on the fence about Natural Selection 2. It's only $10 ($16 for the 'deluxe edition'), and I've heard great things about it... but Steam Stats suggest there's only ~1800 players online, and it's multiplayer-only. Could someone who owns the game give me some advice on population? Is the low online population a problem for the game? And will it become worse of a problem in the near future?

Mirror's Edge is a great game, if you're not opposed to spending $5.

LIMBO is also good, but I'd wait for it to go to 75% off.

Supposedly people didn't treat the holiday gifts and coal thing in the right way, with people hoarding loads of coal and for some reason that made everyone else get angry and *poof*, no events for 2012/13 sale.

Seeing as it hasn't been mentioned yet, there's a large collection of indie games for 70$, very few bad games (Dear Esther) and some of them are quite recent, so if you don't have many of them it may be worth picking up. http://store.steampowered.com/sub/18804/

Posting to watch. Not sure there is anything out there that I want/need to get at this point, but it's always good to keep an eye out.

People mass abused an indie bundle to buy extremely cheap steam keys, which they then used to mass validate steam accounts to get gifts.
