I’m seeing Skyrim and the DLC marked down 50% and listed as a flash sale despite not appearing on the main page.  Is this an error or is Steam putting games on sale and not informing us?

Steam always did that. They simply can't put every sales on the main page. Check the specials page, or easier, add interesting games to your wishlist (you should be warned by mail/steam app, when they get on sales now).

Even better, check SteamGameSales.com, and sort it by date to find which are the likely "flash sales" (since you'll be checking it constantly, no point in wading thru the dozens of games you already checked yesterday)

Just a note for anybody wanting to pick up the Saints Row: The Third dlc's while they are on the main deal for the next 24 hours. There are 4 mini packs that contain 3-4 dlc's each that are already significantly cheaper than buying those dlc's seperately, that are on sale for 75% off as opposed to all the individual dlc's only being 50% off. Buying these mini packs saves a total of around £8 if you are picking up all the DLC's.

Edit: also the Nyte blayde dlc seems to be included in one of the mini packs without actually being listed in the pack description, most likely the halloween themed one, so buy the rest of your dlc first and check under 'view downloadable content' on the right click menu in your library first if you want to get this.

The full package with all DLC is $7.49 American. You won't get any cheaper than that. If you bought the Humble Bundle this is still potentially worth the price.

Steam says "no connection" yet I can still browse the store a look at things, my wallet isn't being displayed either? Are the servers shitting themselves?

Pretty much. Happening on my side, too.

I feel like a grumpy old Steam man. Apparently there's millions of people buying games by the truckload in the latest sale and I haven't had even the slightest temptation to pick up anything. I used to be all about these sales.

Do I just own everything I care about on Steam or what in the world happened? Is the lack of a treasure hunt such a big deal?

The sales are pretty weak, E.G. Sonic Generations is in a daily at 14.99. Thanksgiving sale it was 7.50 and last xmas sale it was 10.00.

So you have the lack of any sort of meta-game to encourage people to buy games they might not otherwise, a lot of the games are the same as other sales AND some are more expensive than they were previously on offer for.

I'm deeply unimpressed by the sale, too. I've only picked up one game, Dead Island GOTY Edition - but that was from Amazon.com with a Steam activation at £2 less than Steam wanted.

This year's sale is truly awful so far. There are no big 'WOWZER!' deals.

Tempted by Mass Effect 1 + 2 for 10 bucks. Haven't played them, but they interest me. Although I've been very disappointed with most other flashy new RPGs I've played so...ehh... dunno. Thoughts?

Besides that, I've also been pretty apathetic regarding the sale. Mass Effect and Arkham City are the only things to even tempt me so far, and I sort of feel like I could get them cheaper if I really put in the time to try.

Mass Effect is fun enough. Combat is enjoyable. You may or may not enjoy the story/dialogue, but you have to experience it either way. I feel like the game is definitely worth playing once, at least.

Agreed, Mass Effect is certainly worth playing at least once.

And then, they will be weaponized. Like everything in this game, from kittens to babies, everything is a potential device of murder.
So if baseless speculation is all we have, we might as well treat it like fact.

Man, there really isn't much big stuff on sale this year that I don't have already. It's all pretty much DLC for games I've stopped playing.

In my case I pretty much already have everything I really want in Steam, and those I don't is that I'm waiting for it to become even cheaper in the future (mainly dishonored and X-Com), specially considering that I have enough games in my backlog that I might be finished with them by 2013's holidays sales.

There are a lot more things on sale than Steam is showing readily. For instance, Star Ruler is 80% off until January 5. I could not find this on the main page or anywhere linked from it other than my wishlist. It's very strange to mark something down by 80% and then not tell anyone about it unless they specifically look at that particular game.

Is star ruler good? Is it CPU intensive?
