This still confuses me. I figured THQ were doing well releasing a bunch of good games... but nope.

Unfortunately, good games may not mean good sales. I hope this won't interfere with Company of Heroes 2.

Misleading thread title is misleading.  Although I guess misleading 'article' is also misleading.

Here's something a little less misleading.  Friends don't let friends go to IGN.

I don't think I buy any THQ games unless there are some surprises here or there.

While I do appreciate you linking to RPS article and agree that IGN is suck, I believe we all understand the term "filing for bankruptcy under Chapter 11" does not necessarily mean the company's assets are being immediately liquidated. Anyway, I added the link to THQ's official website for better clarity.

Regardless of the final outcome of this arrangement, this means the studios/franchises THQ are attempting to sell can potentially be bought by other game publishers. Imagine EA publishing Homeworld series.

Bumping this due to important information.

Looks like THQ is really going under. Apparently EA vultures are already circling the corpse looking for anything they can pick off. Personally I haven't got a lot of love for THQ. They've released some great games (Metro 2033, Company of Heroes, STALKER SoC) but they also had some pretty dodgy business practices at times. On disc-DLC for Saints Row the Third, all the ridiculous changes they had planned for Company of Heroes 2, insane amounts of DLC, unfair prices in some regions.
For me the only franchise I would be really upset losing is the Metro one, I shudder to think what EA would do to it.

I could maybe see 2K Games having a look at Metro. They're certainly the ones that I want to pick up the WWE license.

Catastrophic, if you don't like THQ's practices, imagine what EA will do! They're pretty famous for their arse-backwards customer-screwing shenanigans.

I happened to be fond of a fair number of THQ's games, and as untouchable says, I reckon 2K could do good things with a couple of THQ's properties. Better than I'd trust to EA or Activision/Bastard.

I agree with Urist. Steampunk is like Darth Vader winning Holland's Next Top Model. It would be awesome but not something I'd like in this game.

Valve needs to grab the Saints Row IP.  That is all.

Watching a company who I kinda like get drawn and quartered is gutwrenching. Even if they survive the Chapter 11 bankruptcy, not sure what they'll do with all their best IP and studios gone.

On DoW, obviously, the warhammer IP can't be sold, and I'm assuming the rights to it are still up to GW to distribute, but what about Dawn of War itself as a franchise? Is it owned by THQ? Or GW? Or both somehow? Can it be auctioned off?

They're already up to Saints Row 3 though, and we all know Valve can't count past 2 :P

They can go backwards with it :D

Anyways, as long as EA doesn't get their warp twisted studio gutting claws on anything important I'm fine. THQ had some really nice stuff but ever since they hit a rough patch they've been getting more and more desperate with worse and worse policies concerning their games and studios.

That and ActiBlizz can stay the fuck away, as far as I'm concerned the only good hands are 2k/Paradox and maaaaaybe Ubisoft (but that's a big ass maybe).

I'd rather see Valve get ahold of stuff, personally. Paradox doesn't seem to understand "It's not playable, fun, or finished yet," but they do understand "breach of contract," I suppose, which is why SoTS II came out the way it did. They can't take all the blame, though. Kerberos has had a lot of time to fix things up, and the interface still has a learning curve like a brick wall.
