AC3 to me was really boring. Connor is a total cretin. He doesn't know what he's doing and he ends up getting caught in obvious traps gameplay suggests he should be able to easily escape like twice.
Connor not knowing what he's doing and being extremely naive are central aspects of his character. The guy spends most of his life living in native society and then is thrown into a world of intrigue and deception, both between the Patriots and the Loyalists and between the Assassins and Templars.

If you're asking difficulty, both games are reduced to two buttons. Both having ridiculous windows of parrying, insta-kills and completely godlike main character.

Plot-wise, i'd recommend Dishonored over AC3.

I personally think that Dishonored is a better choice. I only played ACIII, but it does get repetitive and boring after a while, even though they have a nice way to weave 'truth' into historical events. And as stated before, Dishonored has a lot of sexy ways to kill people in style, it's own storyline and world, and housewives' heads stuck in the ceiling bugs. I vote Dishonored.

Then maybe they should've cast someone else as the protagonist? When the hero doesn't know what he's doing and just acts erratic, then there's no tension, cause whether he succeeds or fails is totally up to random chance, or whatever the plot decides. I couldn't care less if a stray cannon round suddenly knocked this moron's head off. I actually felt more sympathetic towards Haytham, cause at least he had a clear goal and had some plan on how to achieve it.

Given that Connor was the last guy in the series, he was basically a throw-away character, anyway. He was young, inexperienced, and had no bloody idea of what was oging on beyond his own personal goals of helping his tribe, seeking revenge, and then helping the war effort which was only a secondary consideration.

Given how deep the story was, though, it made me really sad to consider how badly mistreated the character was, given everything we all loved from Ezio and Altiar before.

AC:3 hands down. Dishonoured has a lot of problems, mostly in terms of how shallow the game mechanics are. Stealth but with terrible AI, shadows and hiding in them, but you can't damage lamps or lights. Also the upgrade system is completely at odds with how the game wants you to play it. Also dishonored is rather short, and there's not much replayability.

AC:3 has a lot to do, hunting, exploring, upgrading things, naval missions, side missions, collecting things, trading, mini-games etc. It's a genuinely fun game that succeeds in what it's attempting to do, and is packed with loads of optional content.

There's nothing wrong with feeling more sympathetic towards Haytham. Haytham is supposed to be really sympathetic and present a good case for the Templars. Assassin's Creed has always portrayed the Templar-Assassin War as an ambiguous conflict, it was just more in the background until Assassin's Creed 3 (Altair's targets all having a death speech with some variation of "what have you done, I was helping", Abstergo trying to find an Apple so they can prevent the apocalypse, that the Assassins are...well, Assassins, etc.)

I always thought the Templar-Assassin War as something very humanlike in and of itself.  The Templars seek unity and peace through absolute strength and control for controls sake itself.  The Assassin's, on the other hand, have come to understand that you can gain unity and peace through knowledge, understanding, and personal freedom.

One places the good of all before the individual, while the other gives the individual the power to make the choice themself, and thus to deal with the consequences.  Not a pretty state, but a very human one, and something we all face, at one time or another. But there has been examples of where both members of the Templars and the Assassin's have turned from their own teachings for personal gain or power.  Its just given to understand that the power weilded by a Templar is often more tempting than that of the solitary life of an Assassin is.
