False Teeth
« on: December 19, 2012, 06:35:44 pm »

Very simple really, and there were only two other topics on it, both from 4+ years ago.  If a dwarf gets their teeth knocked out, you should be able to replace them with either Wooden, Silver, or Golden teeth.  I'd like this because I hate when my corpse stockpile is filled with people's teeth they lost because UristMcTantrum punched them in the mouth.

I'd like to assume that false teeth will go in whenever Toady gets around to other prosthetic body parts, but it's always nice to see discussion.

Well that went better than expected.  He went nuts and punched a rabbit to death, then the dogs and the whole dining hall ripped him to shreds.

Yes, the more valuable the tooth's material is, the happier it'd make the dwarf, I assume?  Also, they could be engraved.  Hehe.  Pictures of flies on your teeth'd be fun.

why only silver and gold? and could they be sharpened to improve biting? imagine a legendary dwarven biter, with sharpened adamantine teeth. Terrifying.

I would assume that adamantine teeth would do... horrible... things to your mouth. Especially if they were sharp.

Only if...um...yeah, it would suck.

Goingin with dental work and/or other prosthetics. Thanks for searching, Lambcake, but you really can post in older threads around here. This subforum, at least.

Sorry, just didn't want to necro an old thread, since there's been all these new updates, and some of their ideas have been added.

Also, for dental replacements, you can just use the old teeth. Or someone elses.

I don't understand how this suggestion is supposed to eliminate the scattered teeth in the stockpile.

I'm not sure how this solution would tackle the problem you mentioned. Besides, I don't think there is currently any downside to missing teeth. Would this require some?

Because their teeth would no longer be "missing" their old teeth could be discarded or made into pretty necklaces.

Why would their teeth need to be replaced for that. That's not how the game works.

No teeth=No biting, and if you're thinking rationally, no chewing.

Clearly we need a consumption based update where certain teeth are required for certain solid, nonsoft foods - Incisors for meats and Molars for vegetables or somesuch. And a dentist profession to repair damaged teeth or replace missing ones.

Take care of your dwarves' faces or risk having them being forced to eat everything through a straw.
