Can a retired adventurer be a quest target?

So I had this vampire necromancer adventurer, covered head to toe in scars, some legendary skills, who slaughtered an entire town. I then proceeded towards the now empty necromancer tower and (after some 200+ units strong ambushes from local armies) with a DFHack trick - bodyswapping with a raised right hand from his zombie army and sending it to its doom - retired him (He would "give in to starvation" otherwise). He is now available among the retired adventurers, in his tower.

Then I started another adventurer and headed to the town he slaughtered, still littered with corpses. I asked for service to one of the survivors, but while several of the quests asked me to kill members of his zombie army, none concerned the fiend himself. While I'd like to think that nobody dares to utter his cursed name, I have to admit it's certainly some other reason.
Note that while unleashing the zombies I also caved some heads in myself, to become an enemy.

Anyone know if you can't get quests targeting your previous adventurers? Was it the DFHack trick? Does something else prevent it?

You can and will get quests to slay your former adventurers. I think it happens when you become a vampire.

Warning: Corai is a idiot and is likely wrong on this matter.

DFhack could mess something up probably, but AFAIK (not 100% sure), even if your adventurer becomes an enemy of a civ, this is reset after retiring, so you should never get a quest to kill a retired adventurer because he is a member of all friendly civs.

But you're completely correct, Corai; I've gotten a quest to kill my old legendary vampire-necromancer adventurer. They'll point him/her out as a vamprie, even if they've yet to have drained anyone's blood since you retired them.

Although a legendary vampiric necromancer ex-adventurer is probably not a quest you should follow up on if you value your life...

Well, I guess I'll pay him a visit and see how he reacts to the living.
If you retire (normally) in a civ's settlement, you become part of that civ, right?

AFAIK adventurers are members of all friendly civs from the start, at least that's what it looks like in legends mode.

Yeah, I don't remember where I read that reset relations on retiring thing, but that might work different for vampires anyway because these have that whole secret identity thing going on that enables them to be part of a civ.

I was from a different civ than the one he attacked, but still... he showed up with his true name and the title "necromancer". When asked for his profession, he told me that he "wandered the wilds" and of some of his deeds.
The next attempt will be to try with another adventurer, belonging to the attacked civ.

From what I recall, they're only members of their original civilization (and possibly become a civ member wherever they retire); accepting/completing a quest just makes you a Mercenary for the civ, not a member.

Yes, I just tested it in a pocket world. Dwarf and elf adventurers are members of their own civs and upon retiring in a human town become also members of the human civ and the sub-group that owns the town.
My confusion came from something I had seen on adventurer migrants, they were dwarf civ members and former members of the human civ and one human group, presumably the group that owns the town they started in (since I only retired them at the dwarven mountainhome). They were not former members of the elf civ, that part I had remembered wrong.

I don't know. But even if they could, they would probably be treated like pets, at least that happens with monarchs of other races. So you would need DFhack or another utility to make them citizens, and I'm not sure if you can do that at all.

Sure, you can go to the place where the site is supposed to be and the game will let you retire there.

you used tio be able to, with warmist's dfusion. it is now a module of dfhack, but i haven't used it since so i cannot help you there
