That chart doesn't look that believable to me. I'm gonna smoke 20 000 joints at once to prove it wrong.

It's generally considered good manners to provide information to support your case when attempting to debunk data.

Have some more sources.

Do I really have to include smilies to indicate that a post isn't serious?

Wow, I didn't know that nutmeg's that poisonous.

I still freaking like the stuff, though.
It's not, it just has an extremely high ED, and that is a graph of ratios. :P

Also, I was under the impression they hadn't actually found LD50s for the last three. Those nice round numbers makes me suspect that those are only "estimated" LD50s, rather than actual ones.

And for at least some of these, the primary danger isn't from overdose, but from side effects or cumulative damager-over-time (from the drug or its side effects). Something to consider.

The effective dose is kind of a vague term too. I can sometimes get a buzz out of a single bottle of lager, but drinking 10 won't knock me off my feet, let alone kill me.

An effective dose (ED) in pharmacology is the dose or amount of drug that produces a therapeutic response or desired effect in some fraction of the subjects taking it.
The "median effective dose" is the dose that produces a quantal effect (all or nothing) in 50% of the population that takes it (median referring to the 50% population base). It is also sometimes abbreviated as the ED50, meaning "effective dose, for 50% of people given it". The ED50 is commonly used as a measure of reasonable expectance of a drug effect, but not necessarily the dose that a clinician might use. This depends on the need for the effect, and also the toxicity.

Not so vague.  It's used for actual Science by actual Science People with actual white coats and everything.

Do I really have to include smilies to indicate that a post isn't serious?

I am tired and posting here in between arguing with my absolute idiot of a cousin.  Forgive me if my sarcasm detector is a little wonky at present.

Actually, that's about as vague as a term can be, since "desired effect" could be pretty much anything.

For concreteness here, we'd have to know what the "desired effect" was for these drugs when the ED was measured - and since they all have different effects, I'd presume they would be different.

Drugs like LSD and Ecstasy and Marijuana actually have multiple EDs, and it would be nice to know which one they are using here.

I can sometimes get a buzz out of a single bottle of lager
This, however, could well be a case of priming rather than an actual effect of intoxication. I've known plenty of people who get buzzed off of sparkling wine, after all.

IDK, I think it's a genuine buzz. Mostly because it only happens if I drink on empty stomach with a high heartbeat from physical exertion.
