Dominions 3?
« on: December 17, 2012, 09:39:26 am »

So I'm relatively new to these forums and I'm just wondering about how the dominions community is here.  Are there a lot of games going on?  If I wanted to join a game where would be a good place to look?  I did a search for dominions and it seemed as though there were a few threads regarding ongoing games but I had trouble finding where a person could go to get involved in a new game.  Thanks in advance for any help.

There aren't so many games going that there's some free to join up in all the time. Mostly I think because being in a game can be a several month commitment. I can only think of two that I know are running right now, or maybe just one. The best method is to just wait until the Dominions bug bites someone else and get in on their game.

Well, if you're familiar with the game and can make a good pitch in terms of style, rules, etc, it couldn't hurt to try forming your own Dominions game in the Multiplayer subforum of Other Games. Though as mentioned, as a new community member it'd be best to have a good initial post formulated in order for people to take it seriously organizationally; you'll want to give the impression that you have a good handle on how to form, organize, and lead the game and its' players.

The other option would, of course, be as mentioned above; wait for someone else to do the same, and join them. Herding cats is by no means at all a task undertaken lightly, so if you're not confident that might be a better choice.

As nenjin and Vel have said, we have a small but pretty fun group of Dominions 3 fans here in Other Games. We've got two games going right now (one that's using the Forbidden Friendship mod pack and one that's just vanilla Dom3) and we're looking into ways of spicing up future games (using Unitgen nations or doing a nation draft have both been brought up). It's a bit hard to keep starting new games since it tends to be the same 15-20ish people playing and we get burned out if we do too much at once or two many games in a row, especially since they do tend to take months. It could be worth a try to see if there's interest though, especially since both of the games going right now have slowed down a little bit and people may have more time. We'll be glad to have you join in on the group, especially if you're willing to organize a game.

The moment the lever was pulled, somebody's pet kitten stepped onto the bridge. I read somewhere that if a cat falls more than 11 stories, it instinctively flares its legs out to increase air resistance. This slows it down enough to stick the landing with relatively minor injuries. In Dwarf Fortress, apparently, cats don't do that.

Sadly I'm not currently at the best place in my life right now to host a game.  I've had dominions for a while but never actually done a multiplayer game myself.  I happen to like the online community here a lot though so I figured it would be great if I could feel out what type of dominions group was hanging around the forums.  Anyway thanks for all the replies.  I'd be real happy to join in on any type of games going on but I have a preference for vanilla dominions.  Besides searching the forum is there a more effective method for finding games?

Just watch the "Play With Your Buddies" subforum. Maybe once round 9 starts winding down (in another 2 months or so), we'll want to start up a new game.

Now that's funny. Years after offering it nowhere and for a sky high price...now they're a Greenlight project?

That's because Shrapnel games is no longer the publisher (I'm not sure of the reasons for the split).

I enjoyed the demo and enjoyed it, but the price tag has been too ridiculous for me to even think about buying the full version. I'm sure it's fun and everything, but it sure doesn't look like something I'd pay $60 for.

If they dropped the price significantly, I'm sure they'd sell a lot more.

Could you hazard a guess as to when the next round will be starting?
