I love the Australian stereotype. The drunken moron in khaki shorts who fights crocs with his bare hands and carries around a bowie knife to shave with. It is hilarious! I mean seriously, I'm surprised there isn't a culture of people in stupid looking hats pretending to be Australian because of the 'tough guy' image. Plus it is a lot easier to pull off when the native language is some sort of mangled English and nobody expects you to say anything smart.
Truly the Australian stereotype is god among stereotypes, and I hope to one day meet somebody like that.

My Armok, you just described Jayne Cobb from Firefly.

In the world of mathematics, the tilde, ~, means similar. One could interpret the tilde as saying like what the punctuation states, but the implication of more. The general use of the tilde with  ♪ and the like, plus the wavering of the tilde itself, has lead to the interpretation of pitch change and music. Because of this interpretation, it is generally used with playful, happy messages.

Take these examples of punctuation as to how it affects tone:

Hello.

Hello!

Hello?

Hello!? and Hello?!

Hello~

Each one of these is the same word, but each conveys a slightly different meaning due to how we have learned to interpret the punctuation. The tilde, seems more friendly, almost like singing (At least to me.).

Now, sorry for railing a derail.

Every dwarf, every dwarven man, women, and child, that comes to our forts will die there; it's truly sad when you think about it. And we ask our selves, why? Why do we push forward, knowing this fate, that we are destined for failure? Because, this game grasps the concept of mortality. Some games you can never lose, but we all stop eventually, causing a 'death' to those game's 'worlds'. Dwarf Fortress gives us a definite end, knowing that we will leave that world eventually, and move on to more.

That's either "Hey, notice this/me", "Hello, I'm conveying that I don't want to talk to you", or "Hello, I am cripplingly shy".

Interesting. I got it as more of a hesitant questioning hello, like "is anybody here" but more of when you first walk into a creepy empty house type thing. Ellipses are really dependent upon the context that they are present in for determining their exact meaning.

You can safely assume that my grotesque over use of ellipses is because my mind is stuck in a constant state of the first example...

Fun thing, in one of the major systems of formal logic (Though, uh. I forget the name at the moment. S-something.) ~ is standard notation for not (well, negation, to be specific.). A = ~A is a standard expression of paradox, ferex. Seems like they might be trying t'phase it out, though.

Damn declarative logic! In any sort of imperative logical system you can use statements like "A = not A" without problem! Screw your paradox and screw your paradigm.
